Saviourwu 1st Gear November 2, 2011 Share November 2, 2011 Hi guys, just a check, what is the minimal grade acceptable for a used car to guarantee a safe buy? B? Will the STA inspection indicate all the defects and if got accident before will highlight to us? ↡ Advertisement

SO as long the car more then 50k is grade B, NO wonder ppl alway go change their mileage. To obtain grade A. STA can check agaist this a not?

Timex1441 1st Gear November 3, 2011 Share November 3, 2011 STA hardly gives B right? B means got some issue already i think B is a common grade....it's not easy for used cars with some years n mileage to get A.
SGCMmaomao 6th Gear November 3, 2011 Share November 3, 2011 STA hardly gives B right? B means got some issue already Not true wor.. usually if cars less than 2yo should get an A, B are acceptable due to wear and tear ma... if everything u wan good condition, buy new car. 1fast1 Supersonic November 3, 2011 Share November 3, 2011 IMHO, STA gradings are fairly useless. Because: - they're only competent to assess B&B cars. But these cars are generally problem free (especially the Japanese sort) anyway. If they're really CMI a once-over will usually reveal a glaring problem. - for niche/sports cars, I would never accept anything less than a specialist inspection. Meaning an inspection by a trusted workshop that has been dealing with that marque for years and has a good reputation. So, either way, bypass STA and go straight for an inspection, whether it be by your routine mechanic (for bread and butter cars) or by a specialist mechanic (for niche cars). Donut Supercharged November 3, 2011 Share November 3, 2011 dun believe the gradings la. A friend bought a graded B wrx turns out to be a lemon. Sold the car after 2 months. you all must understand what are STA or Viacom or even AA inspections all about first. Mainly they look out for accidents, that impact the car chassis and engine. The inspection does not look at wear and tear. example, they won't look for gearbox failure, air con failure, etc, which i dont blame them, because these parts are hard to detect. If the ex owner never change gear box oil for 100,000km, who can tell??? so manage your own expectation. the inspections are not full proof.
Stratagem 1st Gear November 3, 2011 Share November 3, 2011 A: Relatively new car <50k milage, no major problems detected B: Higher milage, usual wear and tear but no major problems B and A acceptable..any grade lower can forget about it. Generally, it's the age and distance clocked by the car that determines the grade given by STA. For a 3-year old ride, it will be a minimum of grade B and above B for normal wear and tear of moving parts(mostly) but if there the chassis has been damaged, it can be anything from C, D etc Vicom & STA inspection serve as just a general guide. Best is to get your trusted mechanic to check the essential parts if you can get him/her.
Donut Supercharged November 3, 2011 Share November 3, 2011 I just got a 6 year old with 70,000+ KM, and STA gave a B grade. I considered it as v good condition already. ↡ Advertisement
