XenonWhite 1st Gear October 30, 2011 Share October 30, 2011 u have to take very good care of it at all times.. preferably without kids in the hse and just husband and wife staying.. unless u wanna go for timber wood or parquet which are more able to take punishment.. One of my rooms window was blown open during a thunderstorm and the laminated floor was soaked in rainwater for several hrs. The sides looked a bit bloated, but after a few days, it went back to original and now can't even tell that area had once been drenched in rainwater. My kid would drop or throw her hard toys on the floor, till now still surviving well. My laminated flooring was overlay on top of the original parquet provided by HDB. Parquet on the other hand is more difficult maintain. If there are scratches, max you can sand/grind is 3 times and you still need to paint it over and apply a layer of laquer. For the next few days you can't step into the room and it takes weeks for the smell to go. Laminated flooring, once it's laid, you can step on it and no smell. Warrenty - 10 years. If you have small kids, not advicable to have ceramic tiles in the room. It is more painful when they fall off the bed and bumped onto the ceramic tiles compared to the wood floorings. Shor 1st Gear October 30, 2011 Share October 30, 2011 (edited) Mine 9 years, bad condition, cracked here and there. A little regret. And a little noisy too. Edited October 30, 2011 by Shor
Bystander50 5th Gear October 30, 2011 Share October 30, 2011 anyone done laminate flooring for the homes ? whats your comments or feedback on such flooring ? Maybe you can walk around some shopping centers to see for yourself. Some shops are using laminated floorings. It's best to look at these to compare as they are in public areas and take on harsh punishments from the daily flow of customers who are wearing all kinds of footwear. At home, you're barefooted and chances are you'll be able to take much better care than the shops.
Tigershark1976 Turbocharged October 30, 2011 Share October 30, 2011 its cheap, good n nice but need extra care to maintain. can last easily 10 yrs if you make sure that u take care of it well... most Laminate floor can resist certain amount of abuse such as scratches, dirt & etc... however, its very sensetive towards water. ur laminate floor will curve up, or even pop up after long exposure with excessive water. When you accidentally pour water onto the laminate floor, make sure you wipe dry immediately. When wipping the floor, you need to make sure that the eccessive water is squessed out from the mop/cloth, close the window to ensure rain doesnt splashed in and a floor mat is placed at the bathroom door to make sure everyone wipe dry their feet b4 steeping onto the laminated floor. oh, yah... make sure u dont keep fish cause the chances of wetting the floor is very high... Opel17 6th Gear October 30, 2011 Share October 30, 2011 Our laminate floorings for the 3 bedrooms are still in ok conditions. Just have to keep the floorings dry. We use microfibre mop for dry/wet cleaning. Squeeze all water off from the mop pad before cleaning laminate flooring. Sometime, we just spray floor cleaner [mixed with water] onto the laminate flooring, and work the microfibre mop over it. No rinsing required. Laminate floorings offer many patterns and colors to suit your preference.

Actually there is a new type of laminate flooring that is supposedly more durable. Salesman told me it has been tested fit for bathroom use, so no worries with water damage. One thing i dislike about laminate flooring is the need to leave a gap at the edges for expansion. These gaps are usually covered up with some ugly plastic pieces that jut out a little so at places where it meets floor tiles, the floor may not be totally flush flat. Ysc3 Twincharged October 30, 2011 Author Share October 30, 2011 did abit of googling on the pros and cons and one of the cons was the issue of noise. does it produce a hollow noise when you walk on it barefoot ? shop sellers claim their laminate boards are waterproof and soundproof ... can meh ? what about the smell of the material ? read its made with the embalming fluid.
