High class teahouse says customer is cheapskate

The Complaint:

I was there at the tea house yesterday. I came in a group of 8 and asked if we could separate the tables so we could sit in pairs. The reply we got was "No. That's why I don't like taking in big group bookings." A simple "I'm sorry we can't" would have sufficed. Next we ordered iced berry teas as it was a hot day. 15 minutes later, she told us she was out of berry teas. I let it go. After that my friend knocked over a glass and it broke on the floor. BY ACCIDENT. Mind you it wasn't one of those "expensive" tea pots/cups. It was a normal glass which we were very willing to pay for. The response we got was atrocious. She told us: "You stained my floor. I really don't understand..." and "Are you leaving soon?!" This kind of service is unacceptable in my opinion. We are paying PREMIUM price for "premium" tea. But apparently that does not include premium service. I left the place wondering if her glass costs 200 dollars to replace. One thing's for sure. They are definitely putting up a facade for all the magazine and newspaper reporters who feature them. And they've just lost 8 customers for good.

The Reply:

Mr Kenneth Lee, you came to Chris' Tea House with a group of 8 people, in the first place, this cafe is not the typical Starbucks kind of cafe where groups of people go to have a gathering or just to chill out. It's meant to be a higher classed cafe. And it's obvious that the reason why larger group of people are usually not accepted is due to the limited space. When you got there, the Lady Boss arranged a table just for your group of 8, and instead of being appreciative, you had a ridiculous request of wanting to sit in twos. Are you expecting them to give up more than half the space of the cafe just for your group of 8 when there's already a table set up for your group? You ordered the berry tea, it's the CHEAPEST drink on the menu and yet you're complaining about it and about the service? If you're not a cheapskate, and you're spending a good amount while being there, it's acceptable if you have complains about the service. About the breaking of the glass. Please, do not assume when you do not know the real reason why the Lady Boss is not happy. It is NOT because of the broken glass, like you said, "Mind you it wasn't one of those "expensive" tea pots/cups". You're absolutely right about that. The real reason is about you staining the floor. If you aren't aware, those tiles are more expensive than marble tiles. In a high classed cafe, how often do you find people actually breaking glasses by accident? Who in their right mind would even place their glass near the edge of the table? True? If you aren't happy about the service, losing 8 customers would not be a big issue. Chris' Tea House would rather have a few good, understanding and well-mannered customers instead of having to deal with people like you. I am not here to pick an argument whatsoever, I am here to clear a misunderstanding. If you still do not understand where I'm coming from, it's alright. (:

If that's a genuine reply from the Tea House, then they really don't know what customer service or PR is about. Let's see what are the repercussions...

Supercharged

this is the very reason why our SG retail, F&B service sucks BIG TIME.......

and we need to pay what 10% service charge for this????

I dont want to say anymore about our SG service. this topic had been discussed to death, even our PMs are involved in this discussion with the country.

this kind of service attitude, how to improve this country?

One moment the FB wall was full of -ve comments & the next, all cleaned up & seemed like they have barred all comments on FB...

Looks like the Tea House is some tai tai's 'toy'... Not meant to be a biz by the way she commented. Hope that her husband wake her up & stop her draining his monies... Maserati is very nice...

i think the person deserve it.

who the hell go in group of 8 and want to sit separately??

cheapskate singaporeans obviously :D

what this guy failed to appreciate is its a small cafe. if you seperate tables theres less room for customers which means less customers which means less revenue.....they order cheapest thing on menu - then he breaks glass and stains the floor

the mere fact hes splashing this complaint everywhere he can on the net shows his character [laugh]
