Should i service 1st or after road trip?

we'll be driving up past midnight so the roads will be clear plus my bf will be the driver so i'm confident i'm in safe hands :)

the same can be said about driving too slowly ma

 

sometimes driving at night when you do 110km/h on the 1st lane on NSH, during the day other cars can see you from far and slow down

at night, by the time the other cars traveling at 200km/h see you, no time to break. SLAM!

 

then like that how? headache!

too slow, accident happen

too fast, accident also happen! lol

 

 

if you guys don't see me posting after 1st week of nov means go open newspapers, maybe can see my face there [:p]

 

i dunno how many other cars do 200km/h at night on NSHW. so many bro already advise u, ultimately u decide how u want to live your life. [rolleyes]

 

before u say i no balls, i have tried 200km/h on NSHW before during the DAY for a short burst. if u do tat during the night throughout the journey, then perhaps we will see u in the papers soon, OR unless you are telling me your BF has done that 216735153103 times at 200km/h to KL already, then i say go ahead and enjoy [thumbsup]

I did my servicing first before i go on a road trip. It's to play safe in terms of all important check's like brake functionality, sufficient coolant etc.

 

Maybe i'm skeptical about these but i'm more on the safe side type of person. But for my case, my exhaust leaked during my trip back and front foglamp cover dropped off.

 

Luckily still managed to hit back SG.

 

i thought long non-stop distance is better for the car compared start-stop traffic in sg... temp is lower and thus less stress on the oil.

i don't think it matters anyway

i will hit my next servicing interval within next week, but my friends and i are going on a roadtrip to KL next weekend

previously i've bought 5w30 engine oil for my next servicing, have always been using w40 and heard that w30 will offer less protection for my engine

 

so now i'm wondering, my bf will be doing most of the driving and he usually does speeds of around 200km/h

the 5w30 engine oil will not offer as much protection as my 5w40 currently but if i don't change my oil, i'll be adding another 2k km soon which will make 1200km since my last servicing

 

should i send the car for servicing first? or should i just do it after the roadtrip? which is safer?

i've read online that people are track racing using w20 oil even, so i'm not sure if its bad for my engine or not

Even in the day-time, when you can see ahead for traffic, debris on road, cross-wind socks, etc, it is already dangerous to drive at excessive speed way above the legal speed limit of 110 km/hr. It is only two lanes for much of the way up to Ayer Keroh (Malacca) and sometimes slow vehicle suddenly come out of left lane (sometimes without signalling in advance) to overtake slightly slower vehicle.

 

So the danger is increased at night especially debris on road on broken down car (perhaps without lights on, e.g. because battery flat) cannot be seen until too close to brake safely and on time.

 

Anyway, it is not only about yourselves but please do not endanger other NS Hway users ! I think 150 km/hr, except for short stretches with light traffiic, is already too fast for NS Hway.

Yes I agree with Chucky2007 that for long cruises at around 110 km/hr, tyre as well as car manufacturer, recommend slightly higher tyre air pressure (measured when cold) of about 20 kPa above normal pressure. This is to prevent superheating of air inside the tyre, caused by deformation of tyre shape at high speed, which may lead to explosion of tyre and resulting loss of steering control.

 

Best in your case and mileage and "due date" of your car to change engine oil (5W40), check brakes & tyres, battery condition, etc before the trip. BTW Castrol EDGE (4L) now comes with a free backpack until 31 October or while stock lasts.

 

Drive safely and enjoy your trip and return safely without undue stress.

all along i've been using 5w30 redline for car, and everytime go up to port klang for work, i would do servicing/check...if servicing done last month, then this month only do standard checks before going up again...check brakes, tyres, whether engine oil got leak, all oils, water, lights all ok...steering all ok...driver all ok or not

 

checks a must before any long trip...be safe

i have personal experience in my previous car.. all things checked ok.

 

drive to KL and Genting with 2 friends.. no problem.

 

When coming back, i did a check on my engine oil, brake fluid, coolent, tyre pressure before moving off back to Singapore... everything ok.

 

along NSHW, drive around 160km/hr, 3 of us take turns to drive. 1 blur friend drive until car totally no petrol and stuck at road shoulder.

 

Manageed to get tow truck and tow to petrol station, and i took over to drive, then realise brake pressure totally gone as brake hose has burst..

 

cannot imagine if my friend drive 160km/hr and couldnt brake in time on lane 1 when the car in front brakes or slw down.. moreover if travel at 200km/hr.. or drive into a rest station at 80-100km/hr and not able to stop.

 

so bottomline.. no matter how prepared u may be, s--t will still happens.. so drive safely will prevent these kind of really unexpected events

I will be driving up next weekend too and hopefully I dun need to see any cars broken into 3 pieces below an overhead bridge...Drive safe @ all times!

Not only derbies or broken down car, NSHW at night quite dark on many parts of road, all it can see is the car rear light, in driver rear view mirror sometimes can only see a beam of light behind. The driver will not be able accurately estimate how fast the behind car is coming if the speed difference is too fast. During day time at least can see physical car from far fast approaching, at night totally difference.

 

If speed around 160 still ok as, the speed difference of slow moving trailer maybe the most 70km/h if the trailer is doing overtaking of another trailer at 90km/h. But imagine speed difference of more than 100km/h come fast behind, trailer 1st just only saw a beam of light very far behind and thought it is safe to overtake and start to change lane and overtake. Who will knows suddenly one crazy car come approaching so much faster than what the trailer would have expected? That's when dangerous part comes in.

so it means running out of petrol was a blessing? someone up there really blessing you man!

 

was it an old car u were driving? first time hear of brake hose burst. or was it modded? care to share?

yr car turbo car? driving at 200km/hr? rushing to reincarnate? why drive so fast.. potential time bomb for yourself and other road users. better make sure yr tyre pressure are properly inflated. underinfalte tyres that travel at faster speed for prolong period have more pressure built up. lots of accidents on NSHW due to explodng tyres.. just that the car owners didnt survive to tell the world what causes the crash

 

ok never knew that the tire pressure will make a difference

 

anyway can close topic already, halloween party yesterday and i went to 3 different clubs in 1 night meant that my servicing mileage already hit. will be sending in the car for servicing later!

Agree, raining is 110-130 max, even on a wrx with so-called awd that is supposedly "confidence inspiring".

Presumably DC5. 5w20 is OK and yes people use them on the track which the car goes through worse trashing than NSHW crusing. DC5 has one of the nicest handling and stability even stock - if Type R it's already track-ready out of factory - so you won't feel like you are flying or wobbling in a family sedan, but it will be a little noisy for comfort.

 

BUT, suggest you try out your 200km/h driving on the track please, not on the road.

 

my integra is 2nd hand, i don't know what is the minimum specification

also my bf bought some esso mobil 1 oil from giant, last time got some promotion

the bottle is green color with some advanced fuel economy print, is that SAE 5w30? i might be wrong, maybe its 0w30; the bottles at his place at the moment

 

several people also say that engine oil actually can last 10k miles not km, so 10k miles = 16k km which means its still safe right?

so my real concern is, which is safer, driving with w40 but old or driving with w30 but new

 

 

btw, i swapped nicks with my bf because he always uses my normal nick when he plays games and i always surf mcf when i'm at his place. this nick is supposed to be something from aliG actually
