An engineer who struck a motorist on the head with a metal pole was jailed for four weeks and banned from driving for 12 months on Thursday.

Cheong Lean Wai, 32, had admitted in August this year to hitting Mr Phua Kwee Meng on the head with a metal pole, causing a 5cm bruise on the head and a 1cm cut near a petrol station along Woodlands Ave 1 on Aug 17 last year.

The court heard that Cheong had changed lanes while driving his pregnant wife home along Seletar Expressway.

Mr Phua, 42, who was driving behind, tail-gated him and high-beamed his headlamps. He eventually overtook Cheong.

Both exited the expressway and eventually stopped their vehicles alongside each other at Woodlands Ave 1.

Cheong got out of his car with a 42cm-long pole and struck the self-employed man during a dispute.

He stopped when he saw the victim bleeding from the wound on his head.

Cheong could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000 for voluntarily causing hurt.

Quite a one sided reporting by ST. Does this serve to tell us that its ok to tailgate and highbeam others?

Something must have happened along the way to cause the husband of a pregnant woman snap and lash out.

If someone can CSI Phua, probably we should all tailgate and highbeam him and let him taste his medicine.

the engineer deserved his sentenced

singapore is a civic polite and moral society....its not like other countries like rural parts of china or india where lawlessness is rife

that is why so many FTs are aspiring to live here and being singaporean is their dream

road rage is a criminal offence

drive safe and be a pleasant driver [drivingcar]

man with pregnant wife in car cuts across a lane

the small boy in that lane takes this as a personal insult and tailgates him flashing his headlights and endangering the life of the man and his pregnant wife.

the small boy follow then confonts the man - who hit him on the head with a metal pole

i say the small boy deserved it

many of these type on the road - need to grow the f_ck up

theres no excuse for tailgating, high beaming chasing and confronting drivers - if you do you better be prepared to get hit in the head with a pole :D

husband of pregnant woman not rushing but the older man rushing? there must be more to the story

The story is simple.

Obviously the man was being protective of his wife and unborn child

His engineer job would now probably go to a under-performing, untalented but dirt cheap FT

this is how things go around here, nothing surprises me no more

Unfortunately the law doesn't give a rat's ass on who started the nonsense. As long as causing physical hurt, that's it.

Not sure what took place when the two stopped their cars and started the quarrel, but to use a metal pole (potentially killing the other) just because of high beams, its beyond logic......... but hack, in road, there's no logic to speak about...
