Westkid 2nd Gear October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 (edited) Volvo 940 "the tank" vs Renault Modus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBDyeWofcLY Interesting comparison. But let's say same built but one is heavier, which is more likely to suffer damages ? Edited October 25, 2011 by Westkid ↡ Advertisement
Paddie 3rd Gear October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 Wow, comparison using a volvo that looks older than my grandfather True, but as you can see, even in this thread, people say that old Volvos are tough as tanks. If you ask on the street which is tougher, old Volvo or new small Renault, 99% of people will still choose Volvo. So the video is indeed educational for all these people. Shanhz 3rd Gear October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 generally speaking, new technology is better than old due to continuous research over the yrs i wun know if this is true, but i suspect that a new toyota might be safer than an old volvo
Akula Turbocharged October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 Used to own a XC90 for 4.5 yrs +. Solid tho FC is pretty average, abt 7-7.5km/litre, got worst when I swopped to 19inch rims. Got rear end once by a car on a down slope. Nothing to show for except a few scratches on the unpainted bumper. Let the kid that was driving the car off jus telling him to be careful. He was a P plater....
Ithunk 1st Gear October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 wats the fc for xc90?
5936 1st Gear October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 That FC is very reasonable. My previous Picnic 2.0 was hitting like 7-8kml only.
Gabriel 1st Gear October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 was going home along ECP yesterday when accident occurred at lane 1-fastest lane. 3 vehicle involved. first in front was a benz viano- stopped a distance in front of the xc90-looked normal. 2nd was xc90- back appeared undamaged!!! And 3rd, just at the xc90 backside was a honda stream-the front almost all smashed in!!! wow, just the honda's luck to ram into a volvo. think jap call that crumble zone...but um...could that juz be an excuse to builder softer cars? i juz wonder? no offense.... Shorty Turbocharged October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 Cant compare the condition of front n rear of the car. Like someone said earlier, the front is meant to crumple upon impact. So if a volvo or any other car got rear ended, damage will b a lot lesser than the car that banged it.
5936 1st Gear October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 XC90 also have roll over cage and crumple zone too. But somehow looks like it will take higher impact to activate the crumple zone. MIJ or asean car'c crumple zone looks like 20 kmh also will have major collapse in.
Gabriel 1st Gear October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 juz for sharing purposes...even when i rear ended a mit colt(flat bum one) ...all my kangoo had was a radiator that dropped out of place....a number plate that came off...and a nasty dent on the bonnet....bumper was fine while the mit colt had to replace its rear bumper....rear door...think rear seats as well...total 5k in damages... and that was at speeds of 70km/h....nothing great bout my van..but it did give me more confidence to drive a conti van for that matter... no offense... Luv_presea 1st Gear October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 Saw a video about crash test, they said that it's not always touger is better. As there must be somewhere to absorb the impact. If it is so tough, imagine what the driver and passengers are experiencing.
Cleefho 1st Gear October 25, 2011 Share October 25, 2011 this car sold well in singapore even after so many years. hope they come out with a equally good repalcement soon cause it is starting to look dated.

The old 940 is a rubbish volvo. The ones before that were better. The real car that was built like a tank is the mercedes w124.
Chucky2007 Turbocharged October 26, 2011 Share October 26, 2011 Volvo xc90 still looks good.. 7-7.5pm/l is not too bad for a heavy car.. Gap MIT outlander is dpin this figure as well.

Cheepo 3rd Gear November 3, 2011 Share November 3, 2011 same thing happened to a fren driving a bmw, hit agst the old Jaguar...the front of the BMW gone....the Jag, nothing literally save for bumpmarks. The gentleman came out from the car and looked at my fren and said 'drive carefully next time'......PRICELESS! Saw a similar accident a few years ago in front of Thai Embassy. White Suzuki Swift GTI rammed into back of a Volvo. Volvo driver came out and used something from his pocket to dust off the Suzuki's broken headlight cover fragments off his rear bumper. Suzuki driver did not exit his car. He just sat there and leaned on his steering wheel. His bonnet folded up totally. Sad but funny !!
