If i were you i will not touch any CISCO home networking product even the supposedly premium E4200. The one you posted is their E2100. Their corporate AP are still okok. For my recommendation, if you are getting something that is value for money and not expensive get the Engenius ESR9850. Slap on 2x duckfeet 7dBi omni directional antennas (suggest to make that EAD2407) Made In Taiwan so build quality wise is a notch higher than average than its similarly priced peers.

If you want to splurge, then get the Asus RT56U, you won't go wrong with that.

linksys home sucks.

but their cisco networking is good. esp the network switches

Now really no more Linksys liao. Linksys has been swallowed hook, line and sinker by Cisco. The reason why they are quite bla is because of Cisco. Their heyday was back in the early 2000s. Linksys WRT54G FTW!

If you want to make it simple, just get an Access Point with wireless N will be fine. This is in view of future switching to OpenNet fiber network and you will not require ADSL modem any more.

you mean like homeplug??

btw, any ideas if i can get the 24 port 10/100/1000 MBPS cisco switch below 200?

i can find the 10/100 for that price but not the 1000 MBPS one.

This is a different range of CISCO products. Cisco bought over Linksys a few years ago to expand their low end home network products. Linksys is no way close to corporate Cisco network system which is almost the de facto standard for MNC international networks.

No, it is not. It is similar to wireless N router but there is no routing function. AP is for adding on to the existing network like router or switch to extend the wireless coverage or larger user base.

I haven't play around with Homeplug products and therefore didn't mention anything about this solution.

wireless router N are they the same as acess point wireless N?????

sibei confuse [dizzy]

The difference is wireless router N has routing function built-in (Lay 3) whereas access point wireless N is just a switch (Layer 2). Actually, their prices are very close and you can just get a wireless router N to work as access point by turning off the routing function. Both of these can still be used in future with fiber network.

called ST and they said wireless router N can be use together with 2wire. Just link them with an ethernet cable and with some configuration, good to go.

darn challenggggggggggger, trying to smoke me, telling me 2wire can only be use as a unit itself and dont work with any 3rd party input..... <_<

Lol what rubbish. Though 2wire itself takes v long to connect to internet.

I had a free aztech ADSL2 modem from renewing broadband contract so i used that n bot a Cisco E1000 wireless router.

Connects faster than 2wire.

Nowadays setting up a router is usually quite straight forward.

How many PCs you got?

What is the broadband connection speed you have or aiming to get in long run? (If you go fibre, it makes a helluva difference in throughput)

Do you transfer files between computer to computer frequently?

What is your budget?

What is your tolerance threshold for setup hassle? (Simple? Configuration here and there but mostly set and forget? troublesome ie getting contractors to lay cat6 cable?)

Do you plan to use wireless mainly? Do you mind using cat5/cat6 cable for desktop computers e.g.?
