If you can afford it and you really like Civic that much, get a new one from KM. But note that the next generation Civic is coming out soon. You may wish to wait till then to decide as the old model will most likely have some sort of clearance sale.

Seems like launch of the 9th generation Civic would be around Jan 2012 in Singapore.

See one discussion thread at: http://www.civicfd-sg.com/viewtopic.php?t=43486

Looks like slightly small car than current Civic; wheelbase is some 30mm shorter. Wonder whether the cabin space is much reduced.

Yes perhaps if anyone is considering buying a brand new current (8th generation FD series) Civic, it would be worthwhile to patiently wait for "end-of-series" sales which usually means lower selling price and/or freebies / service perks.

I have been driving a FD1A 1.8 L Auto for over 4 years. Generally satisfied with its performance, reliability and comfort but not too happy with its fuel consumption (compared with my previous 2002 Corolla 1.6 Auto). This model seems quite fuel efficient when you can cruise steadyily at say optmum speed of around 100km/hr but seems "thirsty" in city/urban traffic. And fuel consumption (FC) gets worse over the years.

When I parked my car next to BMW 3 and Mercedes C models it is obvious that the cabin of the Civic is much more roomy; the roof is wider and the steeply raked windscreen enlarge the forward space.

I recently drove on NW Highway to Malacca. No problem with acceleration and sustaining 130 to 150 km/hr. I refrain from going faster in consideration for safety in traffic, but I think it can do up to 180 km/hr unless cross-wind and road & traffic condition prevent. So in my opinion 1.8 or even 1.6 should be adequate if you drive mostly in Singapore; no need to pay more for a 2.0. Kah Motors during early months of FD Civic did mention that the difference of FC between 1.6 and 1.8 is around 0.5Km/litre.

If anyone is buying new cars, please discount the fuel efficiency stated on the label calimed for that model by about 20% before you buy or else you will be disappointed after have bought and monitored FC of your car for a few months!

If you wish to have an idea of the polls of cumulative average FC (caFC) for 1.6M, 1.8M and 2.0M and 1.8A see:

http://www.civicfd-sg.com/viewtopic.php?t=6972

http://www.civicfd-sg.com/viewtopic.php?t=6973

http://www.civicfd-sg.com/viewtopic.php?t=6974

http://www.civicfd-sg.com/viewtopic.php?t=6970 respectively.

Concerning the two Civic that TS (Spicky) is considering buying, the $13K difference for 5 months difference in "age" seems large. Need to look at OMV, COE and mileage (if possible check with L+Kah Motors for "true" figures for last) and physical condition to decide). If I were choosing, I would select 1.8A in Sinagpore traffic rather than manual transmission model. And 1.8A over 1.6A unless the price difference is substantial.

Hope you will get a good Civic that suits your requirement and choice of model. [wave]

Thanks to all !

Have always liked manual, and better FC. Just that sometimes traffic conditions can be quite tiring on the foot.

Went down Kah Motors to take a look yesterday.. SE say all 1.6A / 1.6M all sold out, 1.8 models left a few. Market so good??

In otherwords.. if you were me, you will buy a 2nd hand car rather than a 1st hand judging by the crazy pricing of 125k for a brand new one? hmmm...

Why manual ?

Manual is more fun to drive.

I also prefer a manual car, but owning a auto one. [;)] Because wife licence is 3A.

Go for the 1.8M. Great power and good FC. You should be getting around 14km/l.

1.6 underpowered if you ask me.

I thought so too. The 1.8M looks good.

Don't be surprised if year of manufacture is 2010 or even 2009. When I visited the showroom recently, all the three variants of Civic (including 1.6A) had tyres manufactured in 2009!

It is not possible to know how many units of FD Civic they really still have but I suppose they have to clear as much stock as possible before launching the 9th generation, which like most new cars, will likely be priced at a premium over previous generation. With rising yen and escalating COE price, in last two years Honda cars (especially Cat B) are not able to compete in sales against continental Cat A models like VW Jetta (made in Mexico), etc even though, from LTA data, their gross margin over sales price is small compared to large ones for brand like BMW, Mercedes, etc.

Note to that when a new generation has been launched, the previous generation tend to experience some perceived depreciation even though the former may be a better in asthetics and more roomy & comfortable. I am among those who think that FD looks better than the next generation Civic and its cabin has been proven to be structurally strong in severe frontal collision.

So I think you are wise to consider buying a 3 yr old FD which is in good, regularly-maintained, accident-free condition at reasonable "market price" than paying an extra $30+K for a new one. Anyway a car in Singapore is lease-hold depreciating asset. Why slave for it (by paying a hugh fortuine) instead of comfortably affording it and be its master and drive it wherever you need to go?

Was just wondering if there is any difference between a 2.0 Model or a SI 2.0 Model?

Currently looking at these 3 used cars, which would be a more worthwhile buy? Need good advice. dont want to be cheated by the dealers..

Supercharged

I'm also looking for 2nd hand civic 1.6 or 1.8. But I'm more inclined to auto gear. Lazy driver already, though I like manual gears.

Been searching through the forums for some pricings

To me, 1.6 is enough for SG roads. No point getting anything higher. Anything higher, means the owner wants more 'face' only.

I'm driving 1.5 now, and its already enough for SG roads. Why should I get 1.8 or more?

Any one got lobang for civic, you can PM me. Pls indicate whether u are owner or dealer.

1.8A probably returns better mileage than 1.6A in real world (where our roads are not flat and we navigate and park in MSCPs). [:p] This puts a lot of load on a small engine with a big shell.

Bro Civic FD have to get the 1.8 or 2.0 to get a better Honda experience. The 1.6 FD does not do such a big car justice, the FD was designed to be a 1.8L onwards car. No point getting a bigger but slower Civic compared to the smaller but more powerful previous ES 1.7 Civic with 130BHP. Anyway the fuel consumption between a 1.6 & 1.8 FD is negligible and if the marginal fuel consumption is detering you, maybe you should not be buying an expensive Civic afterall....
