This is a good sharing. Any update or more detail (logging too) for now? Thanks

5-6 days might be too short to cover the whole of taiwan island

my tried and suggestion:
Day 1: Taipei to Puli (chocolate and honey)
Day 2: Puli to ChingQing (Hill drive and farm visit)
Day 3: ChingQing to Hua Lian to Chia Yi (famous for Ye Shi)
Day 4: Chai Yi to Alishan to YuShan to Dong Pu (most scenic drive and hot spring hotel at Dong Pu)
Day 5: Dong Pu to Shui Li to Sun Moon Lake to Puli and back to Taipei

if you are a foodie... this route will bring you to many local food not found in Taipei City

Notes:
Left Hand drive, taiwan is hilly, so the junction are not straight so might be confusing,
many bikes zoom around with no regards to direction,
Rent a car and ask them for GPS machine
locals outside taipei are very friendly, might overrun time.

Yes you're right. Out of city is where self-driven are recommended. In n city? 算了吧。 Better take cab unless someone are so use to the driving there. Remember to standby to quarrel and fight while driving. Godspeed

Outside of Taipei .. mostly can park anywhere along the road. [laugh] More like MY. :a-good:

I rent the Altis from this company.

For 6 person, either Wish or Starex. But renting the Wish I think the last person will be very uncomfortable and you will not have much luggage space left.

Starex is more like a van.

they ask for my credit card detail in the form, including the behind 3 letter is that ok to give ?

this will enable them to use the card already.

and for the amount, do i put full or just the deposit which is 2000 ?

total amt is 5780

Went & came back after 10 days. Spent 5 days in Taipei & the rest driving to Hualien, Taroko National Park, Cingjing, Sun Moon Lake & Puli.

Stayed very near to Taipei 101, central bus station & mrt main station.

Rented a taxi for one whole day to tour Shifen, Jiufen, Yeliu, Golden Waterfall, old gold mine & museum.

driving in taiwan is crazy even outside taipei

places like taichung, hualian, kaoshiong, and all other famous tourist spots are jam packed!!!

Yes, particularly during weekends.

Traffic volume is ok until weekends, when locals from outskirts flocked into the city.

Booked a taxi for the day & driver doubled as guide as well.

Took us to attractions in the northeast, outside Taipei City. Friendly, generous & knowledgeable. Provided us with umbrellas, raincoats & drinks.

Next stop, Shifen (10 portions, as explained by taxi guide).

This place has a train station & known for the release of giant wishing lanterns.
