You'll be surprised, I recently saw a group kids in school uniform, probably Pri 2 or 3 at most, playing near my estate and one of them told the other "don't be such a CB"! Really don't know what to say. I thought learning the meaning of such words at Pri 6 to Sec 1 during my time was bad enough [laugh]

CB in Pri 2 or 3 might mean crybaby?

:D

p2/3 has not learn biology lessons yet, so wont have clues about private organs etc.. not yet.

btw, can someone explain why chinese is quite obsessed with these human organs in their swear words? the angmohs are basically repeating the F word, whereas we chinese pay full attention to private parts, in particular the other person's parents'?? also, despite such strong interests in these human organs, have the chinese produce large number of renounced doctors or meidical specialists in this field?

Political tool or not, ethnicity is never a black & white issue somewhat always manipulated for personal gains. What is "white" people ? Even between Britain and Continental Europe there is distinction, Western Europeans and Eastern Europeans there is distinction and racism. Even between West Africans and South Africans there is distinction. Even between Japanese, Koreans and Chinese there is a distinction. This is why racism universally sucks

In today's China, there are many "Han Chinese" who are remotely "minority" will attempt to alter their ethnicity in order to enjoy minority privileges such as education and government incentives. During Sino-Japanese War, there are a lot of Manchurians who altered their ethnicity to "Han Chinese" in order to cross the Manchuria borders "出关" to find jobs away from the war-thorn NE provinces. Going further into history, foreign tribes alter their ethnicity to "Han Chinese" to be assimilated into the mainstream Chinese society, migrating away from their tough nomad lives in the North and West.

You take a random group of PRC from Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xian, Beijing and Harbin, put them all side by side in groups, you can tell that the different groups hail from different regions.

"Han Chinese" was only a political tool used by the emperor to unite the majority of the inhabitants of China.

For example, if you did a genetic study of Han people who originated from southern China, they have more in common with Southeast Asians than with people from Xian or Beijing. Han people from the central coastal part of China (Suzhou, Jiangsu, Shanghai region) have more in common with the Japanese, Koreans and native Taiwanese. And lots more.

There is a lot of information on Chinese genes on the internet, go google.

couldnt be the 'scholars' in the old-days china? the emperors were not likely to have time to invent them.....

oh, they did have some kind of compulsory miltary, maybe it was those 'soilders' (distant 'counterparts' of our NS men) who might have invented swear words?? :D

the best must be the Tibetants: a tv documentary last nite showed an ancient building in Bhutan with wooden roof structure, door frames etc carved with life size and also blown-up size precks!! the centre piece in the hall is easily 3 feet long and looks as real as you can get... all in carved wood!! favourite photo spot for tourists :D

Most likely Indian influence ? You will find them in India, Nepal, even in Khmer culture which had a lot of Hindu influence.

Haha! Yep, food for thought actually. Why the private parts?! In France, we use quite alot of swear words with maternal connections like "Va niker de ta mere!", "Onculer de ta mere!", which effectively mean the same thing, i.e. "Go F your mother!" Another one involves the male scrotum: "Ca me casse les couilles!" Which means "It breaks my balls!"

So there are some similiarities lar... [laugh]

Hmmm...dunno about business. But they are generally very proud, and you will never find a non-French person in-charge of a French MNC. With regards to the food, Chinese is waaaaaaaaaayy better lor!!

Seriously, dunno what all this fuss is about Michelin Star restaurants and so on. Gimme my fave won ton mee any freakin' time of the day man! Yes, the very best French restaurants can be quite awesome, but the price will be even more awesome! [knife] How many people can afford to eat at Michelin Star restaurants every day? Lost alot of weight when I was there, nothing to eat. Their normal, everyday food sucks big time! Bread, bread and more bread! Was OK at first, but then you try eating that everyday lar! I haven't set foot into Delifrance since coming back from France in '01!

Yeah, 5000 years of history, longer and older than most western civilizations. How many Chinese in Singapore actually knows that Chinese were the first for many inventions ^_^

Most of the Great Inventions by Chinese faced a BRICK Wall when they have no sons to keep transferring to.

If only medicine/cures was preserved ...

Not forgeting those Burnt books, literature, medical findings from the Mao era...

That is why Chinese have not been successful to expand and improve on their discoveries because of their selfish culture.

If that was removed, the currency of the world is the RMB or whatever name its called.

Its good to know history, but some of you are taking things a little too serious. The last human species died out during the great ice age, & only decedents of Homo Sapiens (Modern men remain).

Some said that the other mayor human spies manage to mate with our ancestors & their genes remain, but that another story.

500-1000 years from now, due to globalization, most humans, you will not be able to which origins that they from anymore.

Its important to know history, to learn from it, as appreciate what the people from the past have done. But history & origin should not be a reason to divide us.

That's my 2 cents anywhere.

Most of us who are chinese singaporeans, are also likely to feel much less attached (emotionally or otherwise) to the chinese culture / history than mainland chinese and taiwanese / hongkonger. In fact this is so to the extent that even if mainland china falls, or chinese culture is under attack, we may not feel anything, different from how we feel if singapore is being attacked.

However, its not impossible that some of us chinese singaporeans may one day become, by choice, the citizens of another country (not mainland china) and by then what would our root be, say if we become american citizens, are we still hold as our true root chinese or singaporeans? In contrast, a jews will always be one no matter where they live, perhaps same for Malays, Indians etc.
