As long as he don't sell you things until your house or office become like a temple can already. What stone what rock good for you, can bring wealth can this can that...until you buy more and more and more...and they laugh to the bank n you end up with many worthless artefacts. The method I subscribe to is the classical fs method. Normally is concentrate on a good flow of qi while warding off the bad. A couple of pieces/symbols usually to increase good qi or decrease bad qi is more than enough for fengshui purposes. Can be cheaper to buy something to compensate the shortages than buy another house. Which I am looking high and low for now, although so far so good (need not do much to present house). If very incompatible with the house, do not buy it, then go look for help. you are right and that is the reason why i say 八宅 is outdated and not so useful in modern era. it only uses year fate to calculate a Gua and cannot be said to have considered one's bazi. in ancient china, this would still have quite decent effectiveness given that ancient china only has a sole breadwinner within each household and houses/rooms are not built so close to each other and with such a small space we seen in modern era. I believe Gua/Kua calculation is not precise enough to satisfy the needs of most people accurately.
