Live prawns - how long can they stay alive?

Say I buy live prawns from NTUC or Sheng Siong. How long can they stay alive in the water bag?

How can I tell if they are fresh-water or sea-water prawns?

For fresh-water prawns, is it an offence to release them into a lake or reservoir? (Lakes are those found in parks.)

For sea-water prawns, I read they can't adapt to the local seawater (if put in directly) and will die. Is that right?

Get them from SS. The sea creatures look better than NTUC.

But dont dream of prawns swimming in the plastic bag. Their salt water is very precious, and they will drain them ( so customer cannot complain paying for water).

headed home straight, and most of the prawns are still in semi conscious state. say 30min.

freshwater prawns/fish taste better or the other way round?

No particular preference for sea shrimps or freshwater prawns however when it comes to fish, i absolutely abhor freshwater fish as they have this distinctive and (to me) revolting muddy/earthy taste. I hate that.
