Intend to give wifey a watch as present.

Preferably,

> non-quartz watch (she has too many quartz watches, change batts until siao)

> elegantly designed and well-built

> not over-sized; must not look like clock when worn on ladies' hand [laugh]

> reasonably priced (don't like those "eat brand" types)

> budget $200-300

Any suggestions?

Does Seiko has automatic watch for ladies?

Thanks in advance. :D

I think you forgot to add one or more zeros into that budget. :D

You two spent $200~$300 every now & dan on some dubious watch might as well get a good one. What for end up with so many unuse or broken watches?

Seiko 5 or Citizen. You can get them at Mustaffa as mentioned. Make sure you get a Made in Japan and non-export model. These 2are quite safe.

Alternatively, you can look at Skagen. Not too sure if they have autos but design seems interesting. I found a shop at Jurong Point selling them. Don't remember the shop name but I can give the location if u r interested.

Thanks a lot for the idea. :D

Yup, remember seeing those Skagen watches in Jurong Point shop few years ago. Should be on the same row as John Little on first level.

Hopefully, they have many selection to choose. [laugh]

Skagen is a Denmark brand. Movements are from Japanese.

I think they have shifted over to the new wing. Nearer to the DBS end and ground floor.

Orient makes nice affordable watches too. Some of them look much nicer than comparable Seikos.

I used to think this meant something, until I found out that Japanese law apparently allows watchmakers to have their watches made outside Japan (in Thailand, China, Indon, wherever) branded as "Made In Japan" as long as they're first imported back into Japan prior to re-export. [shakehead]

Orient is now owned by Seiko, if not mistaken.

I know, but it's like Ferrari being owned by Fiat. Orient still maintains its brand integrity and quality. They're considered more "prestigious" in Japan apparently - for example, Orient actually sends out reminders to its customers to get their watches serviced regularly, whereas Seiko is "fire and forget".

Also, I've read that all Orient watches are certified MIJ (Made in Japan), although how much meaning to attach to this given my last post, I don't know. But I don't think Seiko even certifies that all their watches are MIJ.
