Most expensive prata in S'pore at Esplanade: $12 for 2

STOMPer Royal says he was charged $12 for two roti pratas with egg at the Esplanade's Makansutra. He feels this was just too much of a mark-up, even if it was during the F1.

The STOMPer wrote:

"Yesterday during the F1 race, I went to Makansutra at the Esplanade to have dinner.

"I know that prices are inflated during the F1 and that's quite normal, but the Indian store selling roti prata was really ridiculous.

"I went to the prata store and asked for two egg pratas. He told me then that they would cost $12.

"I was like, are you kidding? I then asked if it was a set meal with additional items?

"He said it was just the prata and curry and said one prata costs six bucks. I looked at him and told him I was not interested and cancelled my order.

"I don't mind paying extra since its the F1 and understand that prices would be inflated, but come on -- six bucks for a piece of dough with an egg?

"The guy just looked at me sheepishly and grinned. He probably thinks locals do not know the market rate of roti prata.

"Are they trying to make enough to retire during the F1?"

Stomper smart never buy in the end.

Stomper is angry at the hyper inflated roti prata price.

But i m sure stomper would not mind the hyper inflated price of his Existing house(if he has).

Ok...this stopmer should actually also tell us the Normal price of the same prate at the same stall after the F1 race.

So that there is a comparison of the markup ratio.

if that's the normal selling price, then it's like the $20 chatterbox chicken rice, nothing cheating as the price is known prior.

Anyone knows the usually price of prata sold by this shop?

Whenever I frequent overseas and chanced upon events, celebrations or exhibitions; the price to pay for quick meals or drinks are considerable higher than average (20% more at most), while anything similar in Singapore they charged at hike up to 200% which definately for locals wouldnt consider but for a tourist will be easier to tap on to sell (once in a blue moon kind of deal becasue of special events like F1 which attract tourists. The approach and mindset is totally different as other countries I went to consider the selling price to somewhat the locals will pay at the premium. For Singapore, it is the sale to the tourist for somewhat is okay for them to pay in their countries (in terms of dollar conversion to euros or pound).
