Sosaria Twincharged October 22, 2011 Share October 22, 2011 (edited) The russians (soviets, in those days) are like china... one thing they have in abundance is MANPOWER. Technology and equipment may be poor, but they make up for it with a lot of manpower. I've read somewhere and it is well-known that their reservist is very abusive. Older reservists abuse the younger ones, and there is a lot of bullying and beating, all fueled by alcoholism. In fact, the reservists try to get out of their training camp and go to their operational units as quickly as they can - even if it involves more risk or danger, all to avoid getting beaten up regularly. Suicides also very common. No surprise that they'd rather shovel radioactive waste! Anyway, I suppose they could chao keng and pretend to collapse or whatever to get out of the work... it is to their credit that majority did their duty and took a blow to their health. The russians are well-known for their patriotism and tenacity - that's how they managed to eventually beat the germans in WW2. I heard it was also due to extreme overnight weather change and the Germans could not start their motorised columns.
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear October 22, 2011 Share October 22, 2011 For duty n country In the building construction industry, we are almost 100% manned by foreigners who knows next to nothing about their work safety (including ours). They mainly learn through mistakes (if ever). Buildings are getting higher, so are the danger/risks to our life and limbs. Hardly any younger citizens would want to enter this industry for the same pay available in other industries. Even foreigners are malingering to avoid the daily danger/risks. So far so good, almost all accidents took place when I am on leave. One day I will still have to retire from all these.
