The next Octavia, based on the recently unveiled Skoda Mission L, means the next Octavia will have an identical body to the Jetta.

Hopefully, the Skoda will retain the better build quality over the VW sibling!

the twin charged on the Roc and single turbo on the mini are diff.

you will feel a slight hesitation on the Roc during the switch over from super to turbo charger.

perhaps got to do with the gearbox also. the nature of dsg, has never been well known for being smooth at lower gears. (g1 to 2)

but i still love the boom boom gear change sound when step harder [laugh]

Am hoping that too and keenly anticipating the new Octavia.

At the right price and a firm commitment to excellent after-sales service, I'll certainly go for it.

Right. Because Skoda has a small market here, I don't think there's such a long waiting time, and even the need to book for a time slot to service your car right?

It's quite surprising that the Skoda Superb is actually noticeably tighter and better built than the Passat sibling.

The current Octavia maintains the same build quality as the Mk5 Golf, and even the Mk6 Golf.

Then the new Jetta lost the soft-touch upper surface for the doors as a cost cutting measure to price it keenly close to the Toyota Corolla.

But I find the Jetta don't have that a balanced look. The body is long, but it can do with more width.

The interior is also dull looking.

There must be a reason why VW still mate the 6DSG with their 2.0TSI engines, and a 7DSG dry-clutch one in their 1.2TSI and 1.4TSI engines.

ah meet again , from merc to vw haha

main reason is less maintenance for dry clutch vs cooling on wet clutch but must refill after X km

The 6 speeder can take more torque & power than the 7 speeder.

There I guess the 7DSG also helps reduce the fuel consumption??

6DSG is more performance oriented then?

But VW has come a long way in implementing DSG on their mainstream cars.

But Hyundai will soon take over their place with their own 6DSG, which will be first seen on the Veloster Coupe.

I don't drive Jetta, I drive Golf Spork.

For a 1.4 engine, you can give family cars with 2.0 engines a run for their money. Overtaking and gaining speed is very easy. Just don't mess with GTI, Type R, Evo, WRX etc ....

The car is very stable / solid but is capable of good acceleration. Overall feel of the car is very smooth and slick. Even at high speeds, it doesn't feel "floaty" like a Jap car.

My old car was an Altis. Although it is a decent car imo, I never had any special feelings for it. Current car on the other hand makes me feel shiok when I drive it.

Bad part is the aftersales, poor FC (for a 1.4) and also expensive components (apparently a DSG costs $20k +). Sometimes the car also have funny rattaling sounds.

Hi Bro,

What is the FC like? Agent seems to be using that as swlling point. What is your driving pattern like?

Thanks

I mean Hyundai will be the next big thing.

That's all.

oh. i also would like it to be "bigger", same with KIA. because other japanese brands like Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda.. boring like hell.

but in singapore, Hyundai & KIA always fizzle out v quickly. launch a new car, cause a big hoohaa, then everyone forgets about it.

speaking of kia. my colleague recently sell his Kia Forte and get a Lancer EX (same year make both 2009.)

his respond is, Lancer is nicer to drive than Kia forte. so in true, while they are improving in design, they still have to do up the basic work, that is the actual feel of driving..

if that can be rectify, then [thumbsup] down with the japan cars.

Around 10km/L. Roughly 2/3 city, 1/3 highway.
