tyco_kia 4th Gear August 2, 2015 Share August 2, 2015 Just popped by Chevrolet showroom to look at Orlando to replace my Wish. Sad to say the staff is not keen to make a sale. Hence went to explore the car on my own. Approached a staff who explained that the latest price is $116,999. Stock will only come in by Sept. By then my mind is made up and decided not to go ahead with Orlando. The staff is a turn off and Orlando is smaller than Wish. Unfortunately the showroom was pretty empty, only my family and 1 other couple only. Compared to Mazda showroom which we subsequently went over, Alpine crowd was pathetic. Acosean 1st Gear August 2, 2015 Share August 2, 2015 I think there could be 3 key reasons to their care less attitude: 1. To them, especially after the Transformers series of movies, they may misperceive that Chevrolet is a premium brand (thus selling them can come with a stuck-up attitude). 2. With COEs dropping so much, their net selling price is still set to be much higher, meaning they are earning more (per transaction) during this period of time if they close transactions. Implications is even with lower sales volume, they still earn comfortably a lot (as compared to say during the CNY period). 3. If COE is on the rise, they will sure be more interested to close a deal. Why? They can safely say that if you don't buy now, tomorrow will be more expensive. But now, knowing COE is going south, why do they have to bother? Does it make sense for them to say, "No rush to buy now, come in 2 weeks later and the price will likely to drop further"? TideChas3r 1st Gear August 2, 2015 Share August 2, 2015 (edited) My old man bought a beemer from PM 3yrs back... first 2 servicing the SE went to his office to collect from him, brought the car back to him. You pay the 60% premium, you get that level of service, chicken and egg. (The whole collection and servicing process was over the top). Was again at KIA C&C today, tagged along my IL to see the K3-SX, some of the SE seemed on the ball, some not that enthusiastic. The one that attended to us was requested before hand, and was quite a popular chap among forumers... This man was driven and his service was solid. It was crowded and the air-conditioning had problem keeping up. Mitsubishi next door was packed like sardins, everyone checking out the 88k Lancer and newly launched Outlander..But then... probably nothing can beat the poor Sales experience I had at Auto France. Shan't mentioned names, but the SE got pretty pissed when I commented that the Orlando drives better and feels more solid than the 5008. Really didn't like the ETG gearbox, which to me, sorry but feels inapt... (Even though the entire 5008 is made in France; but both the Engine and Gearbox of the American-korean-assembled Orlando are German), both cars are different altogether, the Pug being more polish on the surface but sluggish in performance... and the Orlando felt more rugged, yet the drive felt closer to quality. - after that, the SE lost focus and made so many error when we punched numbers. Was within budget, but cannot tolong the GBox. When we left, SE face was black, and didn't even walk me and my wife out. CMI... yet this was a pre-booked appointment. Renault felt like a freezer when we were there to see the Scenic; SEs seem like they had very low morale.At Borneo Motors... the place was a madhouse with the Vellfire craze... Just couldn't swallow the Wish's overall offerings. The Japs need a change of their Chief Designers, like what KIA is doing; onboard the VW/Audi/Bently/Lamborghini Chief Designers; and you get cars like K3, Rio, K5 and Sorento. The Wish just left me disappointed.One thing though, turbocharged b&b cars have been around for quite awhile; yet the Japanese have yet to unveil theirs. The Koreans have made it official that next year, their turbocharged sedans will début. +++ A few other ADs we visited were generally okay, and the SEs who served us were all quite professional and positive. (At the end of the day, most didn't hit the sweetspot for us)The SE who served me at Alpine performed above my expectation, and worked really hard to closing the deal, and ensuring that everything went smoothly through to collection and event first 1000km servicing. I gave him a thumbs up.Unfortunately when went back yesterday to accompany my IL to view the Cruze, he was not in town. The one who served us couldn't do much too as the Cruze was at a miserable low 97k w/o petrol vouchers, which left only 3% premium if you really do the math. Guess they clearing stock for incoming 2016 Cruze... +++ Anyway my FC is currently 9.1L/100km after 1900km; and the leather steering wheel made a HUGE difference and enhanced my driving experience. I drive alot more on the weekends, and this fella is really a workhorse. It now feels very good in my hands, and the family commented that they felt very safe, much like though slightly coarser than the Buick we had before.Buick was the car that seeded my interest to re-look into the American company again...++++ IF keen... can PM for SE's contact~ Cheers wahh....then the service really questionable. The Cruze was selling for 97k.For reference, Kia inflated their prices much more than Alpine did in theirs... but KIA still selling like hot cakes. =/ Coolpica, I am on your side - if the staff isn't keen to clinch a deal, you should just walk away. That's why I preferred the good old days when two different companies were selling Chevrolet - StarAuto and Alpine. If one side isn't keen, I can always go to the other! To the rest - Anyway I'd just phoned Alpine to confirm that latest offer price is $117k. Looks like there is now a price increase (perhaps owing to stronger demand). It is wider, longer and taller than the Wish. Having test-driven the Wish three times, I do agree that the WIsh does have longer leg rooms for the 2nd and maybe 3rd row passengers, partly due to thinner backrests of their smaller seats, slimmer doors and smaller engine bay (i.e, a smaller crumple zone). What you gain from the internal space, you lose on passive protection, The Wish is narrower than the Orlando and so 3 adults sitting at the 2nd row may be a bit of a squeeze at the shoulders. In the Wish, I felt it is a bit claustrophic as I am physically closer to to the front passenger due to the narrower space. Was it a sulky old man who was on duty at the Alpine showroom? If yes, there was already a complaint about his heck care attitude posted on the Chevrolet Singapore's Facebook page. When I first test drove the Orlando, I was lucky to meet a dynamic young chap with a very customer-focused attitude to serve me. Despite it being a thunderous and stormy day, he gladly sheltered me to the test car to do a drive in the pouring rain. He regularly followed up with me on new promotions, arranged an additional test-drive for my family and finally, sweeteners to close the deal. I test-drove the Toyota Wish 3 times in both BM showrooms and I have never encountered such good service (okay, maybe because I lost interest in the Wish!). True the water & fuel gauge affected by reflection. The route was good not just a round in ubi area. Much better than the Mazda 5. Is Orlando easy to service in outside workshops? There was once he showed black face when I pop up the bonnet to see the engine compartment and scolded my eldest son for closing it "wrongly". He's simply lazy and always giving can't be bothered attitude. I am not to sure if the toyo wish used by taxis are the same as the one BM is selling. I took a few rides in wish-taxi and personally I am quite shock it is so light! I can feel floating and anytime can "buang" when the uncle travels at 100k/h! But if you're worried only about the Battery than you may wish to know that the Battery is only warrantied for 1 year. In terms of engine and gearbox, its 5years unlimited mileage, but there is a grey line between W&T and WD. Same for KIA, they offer 10years warranty on engine, cos the SE claims the Timing Chain will never snap... but if problems to arise, they have a SOP for W&T Assessment. End up customers got to pay... lemon law aside... subjective & hairy. Some workshops I spoke to before we got the Orlando, has advised me that Chevy cars are slightly more costly to maintain. Even my current Mazda 2 ever encounter 14 months die off on maintenance free battery. Traditional type can last about 2.5 years. On the outside service check is mainly after 5 years. I usually own a car longer than 5 years easily. No intention of changing. I test drove the Orlando and if feels good. Nothing much to complaint about. As I used to travel up north, so comfort and stabilty is important to me. My previous Mazda Premacy 1.8 is good. Thought Mazda 2 would be same. But not so. Never tried conti car. (Test drive they will take ur driving licence) Wana buy car must get a good SE to help u thru out the process. I think car coe will moderate down towards "election" period. so dun kan chiong if u have time. But of cors if your car showing signs of breaking down, then better speed up the selection processs!
