Fredo Clutched September 14, 2011 Share September 14, 2011 All bro/sis, need your opinion on this. Intend to upgrade stock 15 rims. Car manual recommends only up to 16. Problem is stocks for size 16 is limited while 17 has lots of it. So asked service engr will it affects the car warranty if change to 17 & the advice is to follow the manual. Did not gives clear Ok/Not OK. Next is insurance issue. Will the insurance company decline liability if rims were changed to 17 as car manual states only up to 16. (Think 1 insurance company did that). Should I change to 16 (limited choice = may not like) or proceed to 17 (lot of choice to choose) & risk warranty/insurance issues (touch wood). Gone are the days where you just change to what you like. :( Thanks in advance. ↡ Advertisement

Hamburger Hypersonic September 14, 2011 Share September 14, 2011 16" forget it. just go for 17" and save the troubles of butt itchy again. asthetic wise, cant really tell with 1" difference. All the more go for 2".
Jensenae77 Neutral Newbie September 14, 2011 Share September 14, 2011 what car u driving? fuel consumption will go up 10%, 17" tyre low profile more expensive
Silver_blade Turbocharged September 14, 2011 Share September 14, 2011 You will not see much diff from 15" to 16". Upgrade to 17" will make a diff. Better read the fine prints on your insurance policy on rim upgrades or write to them to check. Personally, I feel no point risking insurance being voided for simple mod like upgrading of rims. For warranty, most AD will void only wheel related parts eg. suspension, wheel bearings, etc... so you should decide if you are prepare to replace it at your own cost (most of these parts will usually only need to be replaced after warranty period or considered as wear and tear. Unfair 3rd Gear September 14, 2011 Share September 14, 2011 There is a case where subaru Ts gearbox give way. AD void warranty as owner changed rims and tyres. Different load on gearbox caused by the mods.
Fredo Clutched September 15, 2011 Author Share September 15, 2011 I think so too, but I believe AD & Insur co will find means to fault it.

Think Silver_Blade made a valid point on not risking insur issues coz of simple mod.
Help1 1st Gear September 15, 2011 Share September 15, 2011 many think that by upgrading the rim to a larger size and it will look good...c'mon think out of the box.....u can upgrade to 16" and play around with tyre size that can looks good as well....upgrading it may looks cheap cos u may trade in yr current rim, however when comes to change just the tyres, u gotta ask yourself r u willing to pay the high price???? Abachee 2nd Gear September 15, 2011 Share September 15, 2011 In truth, 17 inch tyres are much costly as compare to 16 & 15 inch tyres. Please reconsider that as tyres is a wear & tear parts that need to change once its thread wear out. Dun forget that you are not changing 1 tyre but 4 tyres at one go and it will hurt your pocket if your pocket it not deep enuf. Just a reminder for those who are deciding an upgrade to 17 inch rims.
