"Commute" can also indicate how a city is planned, and not just reflective of bad traffic...

I've read before how in the USA, there could be 2 or 3 hour one-way commutes to work, because people stay in the suburbs to save costs or enjoy the space, but drive to work in the city. Not so much traffic jam until nearing city, but the commute is still something terrible to bear.

If a city is planned well, with ample employment spread out near areas where living is preferable, then there'll be shorter commutes and more satisfaction level.

Just like in singapore, shipping, petrochem and "traditional" engineering industries are all clustered in the west - bo pian if you studied this area but stay in sengkang/punggol. Or specialised in aviation/aerospace or semiconductor (clustered in the extreme east), but stay in jurong [dizzy]

HK, Tokyo, Bangkok etc major asian cities not covered??

i think as a motivation tool for us in sgp, the chart should omit those below sgp so that we look forward and try harder to overtake cities lwhich are ahead of us today.

dont need to fall into self-praise trap again and rest on our laurel

Tokyo prob not so bad cos can squeeze mei mei nnp in subway

their subway trains damn quiet in the cabin, nobody dare speak on phone, talk to others, or even breath heavily... such is their social norm in public spaces... complete silence

our cost of private transport is among the highest in the world but we are still so far behind the developed cities in the world
