Octopus 3rd Gear September 8, 2011 Author Share September 8, 2011 This actually happen a few days ago. I did inform the person in-charge and he did arrange for repair. But I feel the repair maybe not proper? Attach is a close-up of the first photos I had posted initially, the one with 20mm off-centre between drain pipe and floor trap. Second photo is the "after repair" condition they seal the gap with cement. Not sure what type of cement, looks like low grade cement. Today I just drop the developer an email with the attached photos, and cc to HDB, town council and BCA. ↡ Advertisement

Firstly, i'll take back my earlier comment on it being not concrete, but your first pic sure looks like cement just not concrete/dirt. Secondly, the repair is still f--ked up and you should not accept it. Thirdly, you should seek compensation of some sort as to properly repair whats being done, it will affect the house below you due to the fact that they have to change the drain pipe, reattach a new pipe properly, redo the waterproofing and tiles in that space. The amount of work will take some time and inconvenience. Interestingly, it might be DBSS and looking at the sky high prices they are selling at while coming up with shitty quality as this needs to be addressed by HDB. West_end Neutral Newbie September 8, 2011 Share September 8, 2011 This is to reiterate that one should not see cement mortar around the internal rim of a floor trap(FT). The FT grating should come with a long collar to be inserted into the waste pipe ie. 'male insertion into female'. This is to prevent waste water leakage... http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10324p.nsf/w/...ms?OpenDocument 4. Compliance with Permit The Contractor shall : carry out the Works in any HDB flat strictly in accordance with the requirements of the renovation permit issued to its flat lessee and in a good workmanlike fashion. use prepacked material/waterproof screed in wet areas such as bathrooms, toilets, kitchen and balconies. use UPVC floor trap grating with long collar at the floor traps when replacing the floor tiles. Qpik Supercharged September 8, 2011 Share September 8, 2011 TS, you should get maximum exposure on this issue. HDB and TC are very crafty. Now, they have specified with pictures that should anything happened to pipes (namely those in the toilet), the part that falls under TC is the straight portion, any pipes branching out from the straight/main is the responsibility of the homeowner. Thank you very much for the info. Finally, all my floor traps was replaced with the correct ones after my email. Unfortunately, I discovered this problem of using wrong floor traps and bad workmanship does not only limit to my unit. Good luck to my neighbours.... SimonTan 2nd Gear September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 I am sure your neighbors will benefit from your emails if you can inform them. Good things must share. More so for the upstair neighbors!!! So you will not get trouble in future with water leakage from above neighbors!!
Beehive3783 Turbocharged September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 Thank you very much for the info. Finally, all my floor traps was replaced with the correct ones after my email. Unfortunately, I discovered this problem of using wrong floor traps and bad workmanship does not only limit to my unit. Good luck to my neighbours.... Please take the time to let all your neighbours know, ESPECIALLY the one staying above you. You won't want the unit above yours to leak water into your toilet ceiling right? Qpik Supercharged September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 Unfortunately, I discovered this problem of using wrong floor traps and bad workmanship does not only limit to my unit. Good luck to my neighbours.... Suggest you notify all your neighbours. The last time I had issues with my place, I raised to HDB & they advised me not to warn my neighbours as they said that repair works to my unit would be delayed. I informed my neighbours and true to their words, they did drag their feet over it and played tai-chi. In the end, it was settled promptly when I revealed that I was going to escalate it to my MP. Donut Supercharged September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 this looks more like a proper job done now....... the walls should have plastic pipes covered. Not just cement exposed..... the next thing you should do is to warn the neighbor ABOVE you. BECAUSE, if your above neighbor has the same sloppy job done, in future, you will have a leaking toilet ceiling. And you and the neighbour will have to pay for repair (50%-50% share). TC or HDB are not going to pay, after the warranty expires. I can't remember what's the warranty period; could be 1 year or so. Time to visit your above neighbor....... Qpik Supercharged September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 my previous flat less than 10yrs old all the problems started to surface. & the worse part is, it is the pioneer of DBSS aka Design Plus. so, those who are getting their keys to their new place should conduct thorough checks like TS and alert their neighbours cos HDB & TC will try to ta-chi & avoid paying for repairs especially if after warranty period.
