Well, out of boredom and finding things to do, will be embarking on the hobby above.

Will be doing it at the pavilion downstairs at my place ( the open area where they have funerals, not when there is a funeral [laugh][laugh] ), and there is a group there that plays there every Sunday.

Drift car from Amazon, and the trick for a start is plastic tyres.

Will post videos here. Anybody doing it, do post and share [thumbsup]

yea...and I see RC really catching on in the last few years, from cars to helis to planes. Pity sg airspace is too small, that they are shutting down the free areas. An article recently highlighted this

They fly planes close to my place. Looks like a very fun hobby.

turf city has good rc track (both off-road and on-road) though not sure these will remain open for how long given the fate of turf city is not clear at this moment. another similar tracks can also be found at bottle-tree at yshun [:)]

Hi

You can search for some Singaporean RC drift videos, some classics from the SGDrifters

SGDrifters 1st Video (2004)

SGDrifters their last Video (you might want to check out 1:43-2:00, the track was in Katong, closed down in 2005)

Car from Amazon? Mind sharing what brand is it?

The current craze now is in "CS" or Countersteer drift (the cars are all 4WD, but they put overdrive on the rear axle)

Cheers

I stopped playing this for a couple of years already and because of lack of use my r/c car batt died. :( I think everything else is fine though my equipment is probably severely obsolete.

Try searching for SG Drifters on Facebook. In my time, they were the core group. It is a fun hobby and I think there are CCAs for it now in some Polytechnics. Another MCF-er also was active on the scene. He uses a lion for his DP. :p

My not-so-updated tips:

1) I recommend building your car yourself rather than buy those ready to drift kits. It allows you to understand how the car parts work and is a lot more fun. Also means you will know how to install your "hop-ups" or mods.

2) Throttle control is key to making it drift; more so than knowing how to turn the wheel. I find it worthwhile to invest in a decent controller if it is going to be a long term hobby. Another reason why ready to drift kits may not be so ideal as their controllers are usually the basic ones.

3) It is damn frustrating at first because it is hard until the point where everything clicks together and you understand "how" to make it drift. After that, it is down to practice to nail down the art of drifting faster and nailing down the right line. And then there are twin drifts which require skill and understanding of each others' style to execute beautifully.

Man, this thread brings back memories of my wasted youth in the years between '06 - '08. "Drifting" R/C cars till 3 or 4am. Those were the crazy days.

Cars and boats are nicer to start with, where RC hobby is concerned... you can go slow, stop, start whenever you wish, until you gain more expertise.

As for the flying things, airplanes and helis, yes, many people jump on the bandwagon, but equally many give up as there is no going slow, stop/start in mid-air [laugh] Crash, crash, crash and a lot of people get discouraged and give up.

Dude, you were with the SGDrifters as well?

I know the founding brothers. I was active in RC drift from 2003 to about 2006.

You think your RC car is obsolete? You heard of the original Yokomo MR-4SD SSG? [;)]

Cheers
