Cannot argue with that but going along the same line, Stephane Guivarch also world cup winner. Ryan Giggs never played in a world cup final too. Guess who you rather have in your team. [laugh]

of cos not Giggs ...... I dont want him to fark my players' wife/sister/mother/mother-in-law/cousin etc

I thought Keane was one of the 4 best midfielders that United Kingdom (I emphasize UK) had ever seen. I can't remember who the rest are. [:p]

Keane played for Republic of Ireland right? It does not belong to UK

sorry guys,

i disagree with what u are saying..

SAF made Rooney stayed because CR was gone ? dont think so.. now u all saying cantona better than ZZ ?

Rooney is still young and he has already scored 150+ goals for man utd.. dont need to wait long before he become a legend in utd..

and i am very happy he is gunning for bobby charlton record.. he is committed which is good..

i just hope he dont get nasty injury which will shorten his career..

like i say, he has yet to hit his prime.. and with nani coming of age and the addition of young.. he can only get better...

well , this is a cantona thread and i hope i didnt offend anyone. But i think if SAF has gotten players like zola, stoichkov , roberto baggio.. they might have the same impact.

IMHO, from the player you listed, the only player which can stand in the same name as cantona is him

Some of the best players, French from North African descent, like Cantona and Zidane. Best thing is that you can feel that these players really play for passion of the game. That's why they are also temperamental and do crazy things! And quit at the height of their game, simply because they no longer enjoy playing.

But one thing about Cantona, at least his legacy was not sullied by silly, stupid scandals unrelated to football. Kung fu kick incident is okay... part of the game [laugh]

I would have kicked the bugger myself too. Good players need to be arrogant. It kindof goes hand in hand. The confidence that you are better the the other player and take him on. The great players play on that level but maintains their humility - Roberto Baggio.

I don't see arrogant good players tagging legend.

Good and humble players are. Start from.......

Zidane, he is not arrogant but the opponent he bang his head to was!!!!

Roberto Baggio - A truly great striker for both clubs and country

Luis Figo - Portugal's darling of the late 90's

Glenn Hoddle - Hoddle was the best player that England never knew

Paolo Maldini - One of the best defenders the world has ever seen .

Peter Schmeichel - The Great Dane was the best goalkeeper in the world during the 1990s, no one can replaced him.

Gianfranco Zola - The little magician.

You are really too young to know who is cantona.

You are really too naive to compare Rooney to cantona.

I'm very lucky to follow MU thru the early 90s to withness how cantona lead & protest those teen players.

He has urged/forced Teen Beckem to stay back after training to practise & precise those freekick.

He has groomed Keane to become the same leader as him, and lead/protect the team with aggression.

The impact of his legacy will end this season when Gigg retired.

So tell me, in this world which player can have impact on a Club that last near 20 years? Messi? ZZ? Maradona? The answer is NONE!

Oh, I think I know who you are now. You are Andy Cole right? You play alongside with cantona, that's why you know him so well. LOL :D

yes this point is often forgotten, even a player of his stature then would choose to stay back and continue train his volleys and other skills. tt batch of youngsters coming up all was positively influence by him and do likewise. u can see the effect it have on them yrs later.

let me compare him with the top player now, definitely legend in the making, lionel messi, he is indeed out of this world, but i can say tt his attributes is his fantastic dribbling skill which of cos is well aided with his pace, his shoots, accurate and precise, other than that, u can say he is well aided by his team mates in the barca team, which explains y he cant repeat the success with his country. cantona is nv as fast as him, or shoot from long range with his precision, what is special abt him is his team play, the accurate through passes, audacious back heel and his near perfect volleys. he adds much more to a team, leeds united was 19 points in 4th the season before he came to the team. few players can get the fans stand up from their seats with their team play, cantona is definitely one of them. i am just glad tt i have watched him played. till date, he is the only player i spent on a poster, giant size one, still have it, collars up, no other player make me feel like buyin the poster, not beckham, scholes, rvn, ronaldo, rooney, none.

How about the Kaiser? Johan Cryuff? Marco Van Basten (though he doesn't really shine too well as a coach)?

The list goes on......
