Any product to restore and protect external rubber trims?

Hi

 

The rubber trims like antenna base and sunroof trim is getting brittle and somewhat cracking.

 

ANy products you guys use to restore and protect from further deteroriations?

Buy those rubber/plastic restoring lotion to keep shining and new look but it is not mean for repair cracks. After few days under sun and raining, it will fade away. Least give you the enjoyment of new looks especailly after waxing or washing your car.

Nothing much can be done apart from replacing it. Cause once the rubber hardens and crack, it can't be restored.

 

This is normal wear and tear and cannot be prevented.

You can prolong the life if you are always using those products. Live example here, my car vs my friends, same age, but I will always hand wash myself and apply this and that, whereas my friend bo chup. Now as the car ages, you can see his car condition and mine, totally different, most of my plastics are still ok but his is cracking here and there than kpkb his car no good. Its just like what they say about girls in chinese, something about in the world there is no ugly women, only lazy women.

I second that..I have a few customers who came to me to get some stuffs to restore back their cracked dashboard or leather but is too late to apply this products because they have cracked...Most of them dun apply anything from the first day of ownership..

Very very true, my ride already 8yrs old, outside rubber and plastic trimming still like new condition, door insulation like day one, never send for car wash before, hand wash myself, applying protection and conditioner if lazy choa choa once a month. My fren altis 5yrs old already changed door insulation rubber once already.

Get the 3M silicon spray. It's bloody good and I'm using on my cars. Go goggle 3M website.

With solar films installed on most cars, dashboard and plastics in cabin are more or less well protected.

we are left with those plastics and rubbers on the outside.

When choosing silicone plastic & vinyl dressings and coating, check that they are provide UV protection.

The Japanese product Glass Coat for plastic trim may do the trick. I trying to buy a bottle, interested in sharing it?

Personally i dun use the coating on trim especially rubber..the coating get harden and suppose to form a protection for the paint.. for rubbers we need it to be soft to avoid cracking.. i suggest use a proper rubber protectant instead.. Can be a tire or vinyl protectant

No, I am not referring to the rubber trims at the car doors. I think the thread starter was talking about the hard plastic trim at the roof of the car e.g. the two plastic trims. That is protected by a coating. I saw an interesting product in Japan for that purpose. Another application is the visor.

 

As I am going to Japan in soon and one bottle is around 100ml, so i think it may be good on a few cars 8)

Agreed you, because replacing it is best option i think, rubber can't improve, we have to exchange it.
