Renewing COE before it is due

Hi guys!

Supposed a car is already a COE renewed car. And the current renewed COE lasts till 2013. If I renew another 10 years from now, do I get the balance 2 years plus COE rebated to me? And then I pay the new COE? Is it offsetted? Or is it just wiped out and I just pay the new 10 years.

You pay the PQP and forfeit the current remaining COE value.

Just curious what COE car is it that one contemplate to renew at today PQP of close to $50K. Is it a Porsche or exotic or classic make ? If it's bread/butter make, just scrap it in 2013.

Frankly, I'm glad that those close to 20yrs old COE car that is due end Aug 2011 only has few more days of life span on the road. Clear the road and make way for new ones. I'm waiting for COE to drop to $30K+, still hanging onto both my 6 and 7th year old car now

COE would be "0" at the end of the world in 2012 [laugh]

very few car were registered in 2000-2003/4. If I remember correctly in 2014 to 2016 more than 200 000 cars will reach 10 year mark. My car will be 5 years old by then and probably have to scrap if I want to change cause low coe means low resale means more coe avaliable. Its a vicious cycle.

Its a vintage make. Reason to renew no as compared to 2013 is to justify keeping the car to do a complete refurbishment. COE prices may or may not go up etc, and I aint gonna play the gambling game. So if I wanna do a full refurbishment, might as well just throw the full COE again.

Nowadays pretty difficult to keep older cars in Singapore.

Even one of the larger AD goes by a 5, 5, 5 rule... First 5 years full spare support (even for small items such as clips), next 5 years major items support (example if the clip for the center console is faulty, no clip but they will have the whole center console), next 5 years they just clear all the stock they have.

With less people holding on to old cars and less stockist, you can only expect prices to go upwards for maintenance.
