They either let the suppliers to take back the consigned goods, or transfer to parkway outlet.

think they will organize another expo sale soon also.

doesn't mean big bookshop which allows people to browse won't be able to survive. kinokuniya and page one are doing fine. if you compare prices of individual books, i find kino to be cheaper than borders for about 3 to 4 dollars for niche books.

hope the same spot gets taken over by page one (since kino is just down the road). or at least another non-POPULAR bookshop.

Of course it will be gone. There are so many freeloaders there.

I read the newspaper report yesterday even more funny. They interviewed a lady and she said 'It's sad that Borders is gone as I can't bring my kid there to READ books anymore'. [rolleyes]

Favourite place to read car and sports magazines, with the occasional good deal via email.

Gone for good? Left with Parkway Parade. But for how long ..

Anybody knows exactly what happened? Gone bust?

because you go there read for free and never buy from them.i think there are many people like you. maybe thats why they go burst?

With rental at high prices, i hope someone big would copy amazon's business strategy in SG: warehousing and selling thru internet

I don't think the problem has to do with free loaders. They have been there since day one. Last time Times and MPH would wrap up their books and they uplorried too.

I don't think it has to do with technology either. How many play angry birds on their phones as compared with reading ibook?

The main issue is nowadays people just don't read anymore. "How to get rich & mangement" books may draw non-readers but how many still read classic literature or even general knowledge stuff? Even for "children" books like Harry Potter, there are lazy adults who prefer to watch the movie.

When it comes to "reading", people prefer to visit self-absorbed blogs and low brow websites. Worse still the written language must be simple and straight forward. Try to play with vocab or use satire and a lot of people catch no ball.

never pay rental

If you're the LL, what would U do?, let border go on making money and open doors, while LL being the scukers?

The ans is obvious !

It will set a precedent for the rest to follow that tis is no play play hor!

Same here.

Good things must come to an end, but this one an abrupt end by errant rental defaults, my concerns was, who is taking over, Hope not another F&B chain or Kopi-tiam outlet.

Orchard Rd should have more entertainment than eating alone, Not another fashion house or jewellery store.
