I dont support TT, but with the benefit of hindsight, I have to agree with him that building the MRT system was a little premature, in 1981. Even today, bus companies are barred from creating bus routes that directly replicate the same path as the MRT, unless they have explicit permission from the PTC. As a result, existing bus routes have to take "scenic" detours and become quite unusable.

Β

If no such rule existed, SMRT may have bled a lot of money and looked like a white elephant in the early years. If the construction was delayed well into the 84-86 recession, things may have worked out a bit better, especially since the MRT was "nice to have" but not essential before the introduction of ERP (leading to an enlarged car population) and the increased intake of foreigners, both of which only happen well into the 90s.

Internet always got oppo voices loudest. But internet voices don't necessary represent the real majority

Β

This is a phenomenon quite common these days. Heck, someone should do an academic research on this.

Since this is a car forum, ppls should more concerns about owning a car matter. Why can't a person when manage to purchase a car with 10 years of COE, can change as many time of car within the 10 yrs life span of COE? Like that, not only the cars on the road are newer & safer (due to new car and newer technology), the number of car remain on the road is will still remain the same.

Β

Instead of changing a new car, where we need to forgone the present car's COE and buy another new one. Any idea what is the logic behind of not implement my thought above?

Β

If the new President can made my above suggestion materialize, I will vote for him

You do realise this is a "problem" only because your existing COE was bought cheap. If your COE is 50+k and the current COE is 10+k, this is not a problem, right?

Β

Unless you are lobbying for a constitutional change to turn Singapore into a US style Executive President system, you SHOULD NOT vote for anybody promising changes to the COE because that will be an empty promise.

Yup, I agreed with J22 about gov planning a many years ahead but that's was since independent when the 1st gen leader plan and plot the master plan for next 20 to 30 years . Now the master plan has expired and the current gov is clueless on what to do next so they switch from proactive to reactive or at least this is what I thought

Exactly as what i mentioned eariler "Clueless on what to do next"

Β

1) Housing prices - reactive

2) Congested Transport - reactive

3) Inflated YOG cost - with all the talent they have, this is the best they can muster?

4) escalating medical bill - bomb waiting to go off

5) a society dvided - another time bomb

Β

Β

to me the current batch is only capable of pushing blame, increase cost or saving fainted passerby

Β

No, even when during my car COE is higher than the existing COE period, I find that it is still difficult to change car. Just like when COE is low, dealer mark down your car price when you purchase your car at high COE period. When COE is high, dealer say you bought your car at low COE price, so can only sell at low price. Unless you want to make money out from COE, I rather bought 1 COE for the whole 10 yrs and don't worry about the COE for next 10 yrs and change my car any time I feel like it by paying OMV X2.2 + 15 to 20k for the next new car.

Β

his argument is a slipper slope.

Β

by right we dont even need COE. a simple balloting system would suffice. Why is this practiced? Because the rich are favoured
