Joseph22 Turbocharged August 19, 2011 Share August 19, 2011 Manufacturing also require lots of land to build the factories, with or without automation. Do we have that large amount of land to spare for the next 20 years when there's a need for housing as well? Automation cuts down on labour and with land shortage, how are we going to substain a large workforce or reliance on manufacturing? that is why we need to cut down of FW mah. then those job will be taken up by local liao. ↡ Advertisement

KARTer 2nd Gear August 19, 2011 Share August 19, 2011 his last 6 years was not what he wanted. if you remember, he say he want to step down.. but PAP say no suitable candidates and "ask" him to stay for one more year. a bit of wayang...... pap rather have him than someone who actually does the checks n balances, so in a way he's the seat-warmer for people like TT... IMO

KARTer 2nd Gear August 19, 2011 Share August 19, 2011 yes you are right... so i wont really blame him for his reluctant in his last 6 years... from a slightly different angle: he's the most yes man of all the yes men, that's why pap kept him for another 6 yrs. maybe I wont blame him for being a yes man to the max..... but not having him again in Istana is not a bad thing

Bystander50 5th Gear August 20, 2011 Share August 20, 2011 that is why we need to cut down of FW mah. then those job will be taken up by local liao. How can a local survive on the pay? I take the semicon industry as an example, basic pay for an operator, 12 hour shift is $1200, throw in allowances at most hit $1600. After CPF, take home pay only around $1300. And we can't get retirees who may not mind the pay to work in there.

And we can't get retirees who may not mind the pay to work in there. For the average local employees, expenses on food and most other stuff may not be high cost items here, but housing and tranpsort (for those who drive) are the big ticket items which take up a big chunk of the take home pay. The salaries and such high costs in daily expenses dont seem to increase in 'tantum', with the latter moving higher and faster than the former. When govt announces high GDP, but the gap between salaries and cost of living continues to widen, something is not right in the national ecomomic and labour policies / strategies in terms of improving the citizens' life and happiness. Acemundo Supercharged August 21, 2011 Share August 21, 2011 this 'tactics' may work this year in favor of miw's TT, but in future it may be hard to reject candidates with CVs which dont really qualify using KL & JS' cases as precedence... true.... Ahtong 1st Gear August 22, 2011 Author Share August 22, 2011 My GF watched a CH5 program on the 4 Presidential candidates. She is someone who does not follow politics and has no interest in the PE at all. In her opinion, the best candidate is TT because of his bearing and accomplishments. The worst candidate is TKL because he looks like lau tiko. ↡ Advertisement
