All 4 candidates running. All hail President Tony

You know what is the problem?

All 4 candidates have their support. No one looks like losing their deposit.

At the same time, I wished that TKL stepped down cos he seemed to have the weakest support. However, he did not and effectively ended TJS chance to win too. Does TKL not love the country enough or feel it is too much of a loss of face to withdraw? If he did, I would have respected him more. Dun forget TKL may also be positioning to join the opposition at the next election. Now, it points to a straight win for TT. The only question is by how many percentage points.

Between TCB and TJS, my preference is the latter. I am sure many feels equally supportive of the former. How to convince these two sets of supporters to swtich camp? No way and not practical.

No matter how you dice it, the outcome is clear. TT will be your next president cos TKL did not withdraw....................... had he did, TJS will have a fighting chance.

With all the Unions in S'pore openly declaring their support of TT................ how to lose?

yeah why should we stand behind him? He's got the whole frigging SDP behind him and supporters are wearing red t-shirt! Maybe he mistook this as GE 2011 Part 2 or he forgot that he say he is not affliniated to any political party.

I for one doesn't want such a scary person as a president! He should just stick to being a politician and run for GE 2016... Which I believe he would if he lose this one.

39% doesn't mean all support SDP for their cause. You think the folks in WP or NSP would surely support him...

Here is what you will get if these Tans win EP :

TT - Nothing, business as usual

TCB - A little ruffle on the side, nothing much, business as usual.

TKL - Alot of noise in the media (if MSM dare to give him Air time without ChengHu approval), issues he will address = People people people. Otherwise nothing, and business as usual

TJS - Alot of business alternatives, talk more on pegging a Value on National Reserves than all above combined. Nothing much, business as usual.

You see, our EP is basically a standing, walking, talking puppet. As long as GOV has majority of votes to pass any Bill, he just has to sign...

After so many pages after pages of explanation of this job, ultimately, he does not have any power. He is just an Advisor.

during GE TKL also helped sdp and tjs directly participate thru sdp.

i wish they have sat down and come to a consensus who to take part.

we all know pap supporters outnumber the others through the grassroots organization and unions. these proabably can account for 40% of votes already. tcb, tjs and tkl are conceding the seat to tt thru such infighting.

You are totally correct.

TT's % of votes is a constant, Fixed - because his pool of voters comes from the 60.1% + the oppo voters too because many people respect him more than our ...

The rest are just trying to gain extra points.

There is a smal chance TCB will win too if the oppo voters gives him theirs (so many here already).

To me, Mr. Tan Jee Say more than meets all the criteria that I have mentioned.

One of the attributes mentioned above is impartiality. To have this and be manifestly seen to have this, the person must be free from any emotional attachment to the ruling party. Only then can he provide the unfettered checks and balances that the office demands.

There is no doubt Tan Jee Say will be the most ideal candidate to provide these checks and balances. He has no affiliation to the PAP and hence there would not any emotional attachment to hamper him in making independent and objective judgments.

The second attribute is courage. An elected president needs a certain kind of courage to execute his duties without fear or favour. He also needs to be strong-willed and possess a single-mindedness not to waver in the face of tremendous pressure. These qualities are necessary for the president to rally the country and reassure the citizens in times of extraordinary crisis and to deal with any rogue government should one surface.

There is no doubt Mr. Tan Jee Say has plenty of courage. He was the first high-ranking scholar-civil servant to come out and fight a general election on an opposition ticket in May 2011. You need to have plenty of courage to do that. I know Mr. Tan very well. He is a man of principles. He is not an opportunist who will waver and compromise for selfish interest. This is why he did not use his great credentials to offer himself to other political parties except the one that shares his economic ideas.

There is no doubt he has abundance of economic knowledge and financial expertise. He has managed funds in the hundreds of million dollars. His grasp of money matters and how money flows comes to him as easy as turning over one

Neutral Newbie

i have a stange feeling TT and TJB are actually on the wavelength and eaten the same pot of rice cooked by the big brother. The invisible hand sees TJS as more than just a formidable PE, but also as a serious threat to the party should he be allowed into the sacred ground...Looking at the last concluded GE, there is still a lot negative vibes with the ruling party. They are afraid of the worst case scenario. Therefore, they created another TT, but a different shades of T. This tan acts a character of one's that is truely independent, no string attached. You see, they even put up a show arguing about conflict of interests...

in short, as hokkien says, no fish prawn will do...As for TKL, well, wrong timing. Shoud have tried four years ago perhaps? [laugh] \

Above are nonsense of course. now back to work..stress... [knife]

Ya and you forget to quote he is a betrayer to his former boss. How can we trust a betrayer and why should we bet ourselves on it? Promise this and promise that can materialize?

Do you even know thus TJS is literally an 'unemployerable' person since 2005?

In simple words, the bugger lost his shine the moment he left the MIW camp and just used those old connections he supposedly had, to make himself as some sort of finanicial guru.

As evident, he made good only in those earlier years prior leaving the MIW camp including being able to be so lucky to buy that landed he still lives in till now.,,,

thereafter leaving the MIW it was akmost all downhill for him.

In the sense, he is the one where honorable ppl' termed as ' a dog who turns round and bite his Master's hand'.....

And how many Master would not have been angry when his dog does that? :D

precisely

I remember a Lee talk abt a Tan.

Say he steady one.. if he like the idea, he will speak up and support. But if he dont like the idea, he will keep his mouth shut. Dont want to rock the boat.

Tan had been doing that for many years... how can we expect him to open mouth?

We do not need good foreign relations???

We are only a small island, not foreign relations then what can we depend?? Oil? Gas? plantations? This is Singapore, our other resource are people like us and to attract investors to setup businesses we need to have SOLID foreign relations! That's where our job comes from.

I tell you without foreign relations we are AS GOOD AS DEAD! Are you willing to sell you ipod, ipad and iphone to buy Creative products? Are you willing to give up your Fairlady to drive a locally assembled Impreza? Are you willing "support local" and our economy? Even so we are still too small to support our own economy. We are not Japan, Australia or even Malaysia to a certain extent.

whoever gave you the impression that we need foreign relations just to sell products from overseas?

if this is true, a person with a funny face will never be able to buy anything at a local supermarket because his relationship with the seller is strained. pretty illogical isn't it?

what you need to sell overseas products is capital and money, NOT foreign relations

TJS saw that the party lost their moral compass when they put profits over Singaporeans.

It is those who don't betray them who I do not trust.
