SimonTan 2nd Gear August 17, 2011 Share August 17, 2011 (edited) Anyone can enlighten me. The news announced by LHL on the increased limit for the S-pass to $3000 from $2800(now) from $2500(July). Does this mean the existing S-pass holder will be getting a confirmed pay raise soon? Correct? Or only for new applicant? Then surely the existing holder will also ask for higher pay right? How about the side by side Singaporean colleagues of these S-pass holder....can also legally ask for pay raise to match or not? Singapore’s government, facing complaints from residents having to compete with foreigners for jobs, tightened rules on Tuesday for firms hiring overseas workers in mid-level positions. The ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) is under pressure to slow the rise in the number of foreigners seeking work in the rich city-state after May parliamentary elections that saw the opposition make historic gains. Labour shortages mean the country has to rely on immigrant workers for many jobs. The unhappiness voiced by voters in the run-up to the elections included competition for jobs and places in schools. Starting in January next year, a foreigner must earn $3,000 or more a month before he can qualify for an employment pass that will let him work in Singapore. Singapore in July raised the minimum qualifying salary to $2,800 from $2,500. “Our aim is to avoid increasing dependence on foreign workers over the long term, by keeping the foreign share of the workforce at about one-third,” the Ministry of Manpower said in a statement. Evillusion Supersonic August 17, 2011 Share August 17, 2011 For those whose kaki lang inside management, it will be an increase but those without the benefit, it will be a hindrance to their chances of being an ft in Singapore!
TurboQ Neutral Newbie August 17, 2011 Share August 17, 2011 It's a requirement .. So if ft come and got a job for 2.8k he cannot get the pass ... So ft is less competitive now
SimonTan 2nd Gear August 17, 2011 Author Share August 17, 2011 (edited) So the existing s-pass holder earning $2800 will be kicked out of s-pass if he don't get increment to $3000? Or will there be a two different class of s-pass holder....S-$28 and s-$30 existing together...oh not forgetting a possible third class from the old July s-$25? Gearoil 1st Gear August 17, 2011 Share August 17, 2011 Sinkie employees are fooling themselve to think his Master is going to come up with new rules to make them more song... Smart Employer know...if they employ a Sinkie for $3k even fesh grad..one... two years the Sinkie jumps ship quoting all sorts of fark up reasons for hopping..from money not enough to the weather not good enough for turning up at work etc.. Moreover the plus points all along have been FT are moe hardworking, commit long hours and are more worth to employ overall ( Sinkie are plain chow keng ..eat snake and coming up with all sorts of farked type reasoning for not performing) This is plain simple and obvious as to why Sinkie remain UNCOMPETITIVE...look at most of the 'silver servants' and the Ah beng and local mats and Ah neh... Even the FT ah neh would ask his bros and sister from India to join him same goes to the PRC! But I leave the question as to WHO IS REALLY to be blamed for why Sinkie became like this... You can tell me all sorts of father mother stories...but at the end of the day.. Being a Boss...you would always want your servants to be at your beck and call besides making alot of money yourself.. Sinkie empolyees only knows how to cry father mother and tell fairy tails to cover their own axxses!

MX5NC2 1st Gear August 17, 2011 Share August 17, 2011 Will businesses be willing to cough up more money for FTs if Singaporeans still refuse to take on certain jobs? Will this spur a movement toward higher wages and thus lead to higher inflation?

Minikong 1st Gear August 17, 2011 Share August 17, 2011 (edited) this measure dont really affect mnc much and let me explain on this * mnc and sme like to use e pass, because it is 0 levy, and best of all is 0 quotA * with this increment to 3k, it only afffect the local foreginer that are fresh grad, etc a prc graduate from ntu, will now be harder to find job, as they need to have a 3k starting pay, instead of the previous 2.5k. * this 3k adjustment will not affect ft. if you know the mnc paying market well for those ft in manager level, 3k close 1 eye can reach le.... so bascically for ppl like us working for a few years and earning more than 60k per annuam 1, this will not help at all. * sme will feel the hit, as bascially sme got alot of job opening that local grad dont work. nowadays all local grad wanted to work in big company with startying pay 3k, and other benefit, like 21 days leave, compare to sme 14 days leave. Bystander50 5th Gear August 17, 2011 Share August 17, 2011 Do you know the requirements of Work Permit or are you guessing ? Making a guess. I believe the employers can always reapply for them to work under work permit. Same for work permit holders can apply for EP if they meet the conditions. Not sure if the locals to foreigners quota apply to EPs a not.

Not sure if the locals to foreigners quota apply to EPs a not. no la..... ep is for preofessional job ppl holding a degree or a special skill, that earn 2500 and above for now. no quoata needed, so u can see banks got alot of ep holders. s spass and wp will have quota, etc s spass will be 2 singaporeans cpf account to 1 s pass, and a levy of $150 monthly. you can actually go mom website to read it out, and wp is wide, u have to see what industry you are in, if you are in service, wp is very hard to get, as 5 singaporean cpf then got 1 quota. but if you are in construction, it depents on the man year. and lastly wp is the is the pass most bangala ppl u seen doing construction holdin, so u cannot compare this with ep....
