That student-pilot., after landing the plane, was demoted for failing to follow his Instructor's order to eject...

...then later promoted for saving the plane (minus one wing). Classic!

KNS... Demote then Promote.... back to same rank what..... LPPL..... [laugh][rolleyes]

Did you mix that incident up with another involving 2 US navy fighter jets?

2 F14s also collided at the South China Sea, 1 ejected while the other limped all the way back to Paya Lebar AB with 1 wing. Also happened in the early 90s.

Since when we got F14s?

From USN. We could not afford even if we wanted.

The AIM54 Phoenix cost US$1m per shot, no way we can throw money like that.

Anyway the entire fleet of Tomcats all decommissioned liao.

So our AF did have an accident in the S.China sea too? I see.

That is a different one where a pilot lost his life as mentioned in the later posts?

For a moment, I thought we did have F14s at one point in time. Cool bird, swept wings.

The one where we lost a pilot happened in the US. PCIII I think. It was a block 52 F16CD.

I knew Lt Loo, he was a nice guy.

I didn't mention that the F14s belonged to us, but the US navy.

One of the damaged planes flew into PLAB for emergency landing.

This happened ard the early to mid 90s.

I prefer the 70s and the 80s. More interesting planes from different manufacturers. F-15 and F-14 tops the list and the bad guys had badass MIGs and the super mysterious MIG 29s. F-4s vs MIG 21s. Tornadoes, Mirage 2000s, Viggens & Harriers. A-6 and A-7s.

Today, it is one plane does everything with multiple block upgrades. The Navy only uses F-18s. It is getting very very boring.
