Damm it.

I was keeping my super four Honda for this race track.

Looks like it's a white elephant now.

Wanted so much for this race track to happen....what a pity.

I like your avatar. :D

If the track does become reality, I was thinking of getting an old WRX or S13 as an OPC car to do car and have some fun on the track.

THE construction of the beleaguered Changi Motorsports Hub, which is seen as the cornerstone of Singapore's future in the motorsports industry, has hit another major road block.

Piling contractor CSC Holdings is abandoning the project and is believed to be seeking legal action against SG Changi - the consortium in charge - said a reliable source.

SG Changi has allegedly failed to deliver on the $50-million piling payment to CSC for the 41ha-sized hub. Construction work has reportedly been stopped since February. The $380-million project was due for completion by December.

The source added: 'They have already started packing up the building equipment - the rigs and spun piles - and have abandoned the project... It (the piling) is only about 30 per cent completed. '

A CSC spokesman declined comment yesterday.

When The Straits Times visited the worksite at Aviation Park Road in Changi yesterday, only some machinery and concrete piles were seen. Fewer than 10 workers were present.

The workers were directing the piles to be loaded onto a truck which then transported them away.

Said a staff member who was on site: 'They already started moving away the equipment about two weeks ago, and by the end of the month, all of the equipment will be moved.'

SG Changi, a Japanese-Singapore consortium, has been plagued with problems since it beat two others - Singapore Agro Agriculture and Sports Services - to win the development bid in March 2010.

Two of the group's directors - former racing driver Genji Hashimoto and Singaporean Eddie Loh - resigned last year, fuelling talk that the group was suffering from cash-flow problems.

Then, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau started a probe into alleged irregularities in the tender process for the project. A Singapore Sports Council (SSC) director, Fan Chian Jen, who was in charge of the project, later left the body.

The relationship between two of the remaining shareholders, Thia Yoke Kian, the former owner of Jurong Kart World, and Japanese Fuminori Murahashi, then soured.

Recently, it also surfaced that the Commercial Affairs Department has launched an investigation into a purportedly forged bank guarantee which was used in the tender process.

When contacted, Thia, Murahashi, and another shareholder Moto Sakuma, a businessman who replaced Hashimoto, all declined comment.

This latest setback for the motorsports hub - which will include a 3.7km track, shopping facilities and a racing academy, and can stage any form of racing bar Formula One - is expected to push back plans to host the MotoGP and Japan's Super GT by March next year.

The SSC, which was in charge of the tender for the project, said yesterday that it was 'monitoring the situation closely and will take appropriate actions at the right time'.

Said the SSC's chief financial officer Goh Fang Min: 'We have been in touch with SG Changi on this. We also have been in discussions with the relevant parties and looking at different options.'

She added: 'The Changi Motorsport Hub is a commercial project that is fully funded by SG Changi. We expect them to continue to comply with their commitments under the project agreement.'

How many times were such motor-related projects abandoned?? Last time was Tuas I remembered, now Changi.

Tuas make way for more factories coz it was industrial boom, now Changi make way for hotels coz now is the rich tourist w mistress boom.

Also... feel sad that maybe they announce motorhub to get the petrolheads' vote then divert the funds away to other more "economically viable" projects =(

really? I might be interested. Do you take over non road registered cars or only road cars? Do you think taking a non road one would be an issue?

I know for MME Sepang will issue me with a temp import cert (for a damn huge fee) but for practice sessions at sepang an PG what happens then? Then again if theres no track at changi may as well rent a garage in Malaysia.

(edited)

im juz curious, wat do u drive for a daily commuter? anything fanciful?

Im currently using the lotus as a daily driver and to race as Im mostly in japan right now. My current plan at the end of the year when i return to Singapore is to import it solely for racing.
