Could be stocks unavailable or limited by underestimated factory orders projection.

Or the backend staff could not register the cars fast enough, due to local fittings limitations or paper work

Neutral Newbie

Now a days i don't understand why sporean like to buy cars that is not reliable just because of brand and exchange rate for conti car is cheaper. But it is a cycle, so down the road when all this conti car reach 3-5 years all have to be scrap as it need heavy upkeep cost.

So those European nations who buys conti cars all have to pay alot for servicing?

Funny.....maybe it's very cheap to service contin cars in Europe. And very expensive to service Japanese cars in European nations.

Singapore so small market, buyers get their cars first in other larger countries.

If only VW Singapore could get the stocks from VW Malaysia.....

I liquidated all my holdings well before the market volatility, still feeling sour did not buy in last week low, would have made at least $10K within a day or 2 for the counter that I am aiming at.

COE crash ? No way, be glad if it drop 10% to 20% for CAT A, else will be status quo. Not commenting on CAT B, the rich are not affected by it, even a school teacher friend of mine bought a brand new 5 series with pay check I guess around $8K at most, really living on margin, no parents $ liability, his thought was want to buy condo, so expensive, suck thumb had to squeeze in his HDB pigeon hole, hence get a brand new 5 series to hao lian to his neighbors, colleagues, relatives and friends. No wonder BMW F10 top sales model in 2011, Singaporeans really willing to spent on cars.

Yeah. These days, teachers are really rich. They're richer of course, if they don't have much financial commitments.

If my parents didn't have us children, they will be staying in a posh condominium in the city [probably in a pent-house], driving at least a 5-series too =)

You mean conti cars not reliable? [:/]

Some conti cars are more reliable than others... just like some asian makes are better than other asian makes *cough*. Overall, German makes are usually very sturdy and French have a bad reputation for reliability though their car designs are usually amazing.

The main reason why it is so "expensive" to service conti cars is usually because the tech level is higher (more electrics) so quite a few of the small private repair shops do not have the proprietorial tools. Yes they can still do basic repairs, but not as good as Authorized workshops, and those usually charge a premium.

Also, parts are usually shipped from afar. Japanese makes had saturated the market for quite a while and they usually stick to standard parts between models and even marques at times... this makes OEM manufacturers viable and that drives down the market price. One can draw references to the Printer industry where they earn more from inks rather than the printer sales themselves.

So having complicated electronics requiring specialized tools mean that workshops have to invest in such equipment... and with different brands using different tools, it is a sizable investment.

I guess not all conti cars are realiable?! Like what you have mentioned, French.

For that, you have to know the characteristics and mindset of the people who actually build the car, and of course, the company who makes the car.....
