Wishcumstrue 6th Gear August 13, 2011 Share August 13, 2011 CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1146843/1/.html "Lee Kuan Yew has acknowledged the pressures new immigrants have placed on citizens and home prices in the country." "Mr Lee said: "We've done a revamp and HDB has promised that within four years, the supply will meet the demand. It will be resolved." But home prices aside, citizens are feeling the pressure in other aspects. Mr Lee said: "On competition for jobs, and especially competition, pressure on their children to do well in schools. The new migrants having left his home must go all out to succeed in the country that he or she has adopted. "That is to be expected and therefore, we must accept that they are going to do their best and if doing their best puts pressure on us, our children, it may be good for them because they will also have to put in effort to do their best to keep up." So People of Singapore, we finally hear from the Horse's mouth that current Singapore government believe in putting "Pressure" on Singaporeans to maximum results from your blood and sweat. If not getting expected result, the Singapore government was the choice to mass-import non-locals to keep up that "Pressure". In July this year, only weeks before Singapore's 46 NDP, LKY stated "'Singapore can't punch above its own weight if it depends on local talent" at South Asian Diaspora convention hosted to show case non-local "Talents". So, People of Singapore, some ex-cabinet ministers now sees Singaporeans as a liability. You have wasted your time and effort in NS and all those national campigns in the last 40 years....because you are "old", "no vitality and no drive".. Hard Truth for Singaporean or those New immigrants? I say BOTH. If those new immigrants are "younger, has vitality and drive", why are they leaving their bigger resource-rich bigger home countries and coming to this little Red Dot to work and still complain? While at the same time, Singaporeans have been asked to contribute charitable works in those impoverished communities in countries like Philippines, to India and China where majority of these new immigrants from. Shouldn't these thousands of immigrants here able to contribute their "youth, vitality and drive" where their own home town are most needed? I find recent LKY's post-GE statements both perplexing and misleading. These mass-importation of immigrants within last few years serves only as TOOL to create division and tension in Singapore in the name of GDP which Singapore's Ministers pay and bonuses are pegged to. ↡ Advertisement
Mdfaz 2nd Gear August 14, 2011 Share August 14, 2011 'Mr Lee Kuan Yew said a big part of the explanation is because of the housing shortage. Many Singaporeans also attributed the rise in home prices to new Permanent Residents and citizens from China and India. This is something the former Minister Mentor agrees with. However, he pointed out that the government is trying to put things right.' I thought govt said that immigrants did not pUsh up housing prices before GE? Now what? U-turn? Talk also like prata-man.. Why the hell are they paid so much then if they cannot even acknowledge the problems the man on the street are facing?

Kb27 Supersonic August 14, 2011 Share August 14, 2011 When MIW make mistake, it must be forgiven, bcoz it's honest mistakes. When opposition make mistake, it is different, throw them into jail, make them bankrupt, set the dogs on them. Such is the fairness in this country. True.. now they want to change 360 degrees also very hard, as there is a lot of problem that cannot be solve so easily and many need time to see effect. So well... a bit too late to re-ramp.. Wreckwrx 1st Gear August 14, 2011 Share August 14, 2011 Welcome to Singapore Inc... We r nothing but employees hence our employers must constantly put pressure on us to perform. Otherwise they tell us that's others waiting in line to take our places.... They tell us to serve NS, we serve NS. After which they renumerate u with NS men bonus. Don't serve don't get. They tell us to make babies so we make babies. After that they pay us Baby Bonus. No babies no pay. Don't u feel these are exactly like those KPI set for working in companies? Then when u r old and cannot perform, they tell u that they replace u with younger, brighter n cheaper new hires that r a lot more hungry than u r. I also think so.. so constantly put pressure on government is actually a good thing.. as it drives government to work even harder and axe those who is causing the problem worst for Singapore.. But it works 2-way also.. as there is many issue which is very complicated.. perhaps PM Lee cannot find good talent.. and well they still not ready to accept opposition as good candidates.. Perhaps till next GE.. It will be a good mix of political party.. and by than, those important appointment will have a good mix of PAP and other political party.. it will actually works well ( in what I feel would be the best solution for Singapore ) Edited August 14, 2011 by Yewheng

Icedbs Turbocharged August 14, 2011 Share August 14, 2011 (edited) guys.....I think all these choices that the gov. made are driven by the fact that Singapore need to make extremely stark choices due to the circumstances she is in. Singapore is small, no natural resources and the only resources to keep the country growing is the people. If the people are not good enough, the country will go backwards If the number of people do not grow, the country's economy will stagnate All the current issues are a necessary evil because the country has grown too fast within a short 40-50 years. The first generation that went through that 40-50 years have benefited from that growth, but the later generations are now facing the brunt of it. It may have been better if they had pace out that growth in the past. There is no easy choices if one choose to remain in Singapore. You just have to keep pushing the envelope and take the pressure.
