Satria_neo Clutched August 13, 2011 Share August 13, 2011 I didn't know this till today and I must say I am surprised. http://www.porsche.com/usa/aboutporsche/po...y/variocamplus/ This is the Variocam plus variable valve lift technology used in Porsche engines. Its actually the same system use by by Proton in their Campro CPS engines and its licensed to Porsche. Of course, they say its actually developed by Lotus...... http://gen2clubbrunei.blogspot.com/2008/12...2-cps-iafm.html Look at the intake cam profile and compare it with Variocam plus. They are essentially the same. Both systems also use flat tappets with a locking pin to change the cams. Of course, the Proton engine does not have continous VVT implemented, only fixed VVT and VVL similar to MIVEC and early VTEC systems. Video of Variocam plus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwWp5TLGMVk Video of Campro CPS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fjn6bdvYdKw ↡ Advertisement
Thedream 3rd Gear August 13, 2011 Share August 13, 2011 Where does it say that this is licensed from Proton? In contrary, in the first link you provided, Porsche claims to have developed Variocam themselves. Quick! Go ask Proton to sue them!!!

INA is also licensed it. Btw, Variocam is developed by Porsche. Its a variable valve timing mechanism w/o lift control. Only the Plus version has lift control. And this lift control mechanism is licensed from Lotus.

Ceecookie 5th Gear August 14, 2011 Share August 14, 2011 (edited) I doubt its true - the monkeys rarely have the initiative to develop anything of their own. Saga, Satria, Perdana , Wira, Juara and Inspira all based on Mitsubishi models . Engines also must use Mitsubishi's Most likely this tech was originally from Lotus. Lotus buyover != Proton developing the tech PS: Tiara = rebadged Citroen Edited August 14, 2011 by Ceecookie

Picanto 3rd Gear August 14, 2011 Share August 14, 2011 i think its disgraceful to copy anything from proton. porsche will never do such a thing

Escksu Clutched January 3, 2012 Share January 3, 2012 I just check around. VarioCam Plus is indeed a variant of the same camprofile switching used on the Campro CPS engine. HOwever, I think its licensed from Lotus rather than Proton cause its Lotus that developed it, not Proton. Proton has access to all of Lotus's technology because they own Lotus. They even have a supercharged version of the engine.
