How old is she now?

If say when she reach 21, she's 2-3 years into her 5 year programme and she doesn't want to give up her citizenship, not a bad deal, she has covered 40-60% of the course fees under SG taxpayers' money. She just need to cough out the balance on her own which is a great deal. What can the gov do to her if she choose not to come back here? Shame her in the papers for all they want, no one will remember her face after a few years.

for such cases, why didn't the government think of holding her parent's property as co-lateral. If she breaks the bond, the property will be seized, irregardless of what the value is.

If I understand correctly, President's Scholarship has no bond and very little scholarship money. This is why they are usually concurrently SAF or PSC OMS Scholars. Tony Tan's famous President's Scholar son gave up his bonded scholarship to pursue his course of study, for example.

The President's Scholar is supposed to be a role model, and it is disappointing that it is awarded to a PRC citizen. I guess Singapore has no female talent left.

If your point is true, then it's really a sad state for us.

I can't imagine that we have to retort to giving a foreigner the award. If there are no best of the best female talent here, we can always give it to the best 2nd in line local. This is a country where the actions the government does does not take into the consideration of the citizen. But when things happen, they want the citizens to rally behind them.

Prata man gave her the scholarship. We shld b asking him why he do such a stunt? It just shows that he is not Singaporeans first.

As this girl has high chance of not becoming citizen, y he gamble & award her this scholarship? carry foreign balls again? Why not give a 100% Singaporean?

Her President's Scholarship will be terminated when she reached 21 year old and if she did not give up her china citizenship.

if its indeed correct to say dual citizenship holder is not entilted to Prez Scholarship, by the time she reaches 21, wouldnt it be too late? she would have deprived another true citizenship the chance for the scholoarship in 2011, today.

something doesnt smell right, now. :o

what the odd she will keep her singapore citizenship when she reach 21?

if there is a chance of she keeping China citizenship (no matter how remote), the scholarship should not be offer to her..

how ppl in the board award the scholoarship in the first place? if really no suitable candidate (which i dont think so), actually can keep the quota for next yr one mah...

If the Board is 'above board', which i should think so, why not reveal that she has no connection whatsoever and both she and the Board members make such a formal declaration.... so-called meritocracy system must be seen to work.... not just in name :o

I will generally consider a dual citizen like her to be Singaporean enough but I always thought President's Scholarship is a very symbolic award and a role model for Singaporean students. What does this award mean? She is not even serving military service. I feel we Singaporeans are like that old 46 year old first wife of the government who stuck with them through the hard times when they were poor and now that they are rich and found fancy and young PRC mistresses and is starting to hiam how old and ugly we have become.

You got the point. You are right. The trend here and in China is to go for mistresses [:p]

We are invaded before being invaded.

And we invite the invasion ourselves. [shakehead] [shakehead]

Old Lee said something today, he said s'pore cannot live without FTs and he cannot imagine if s'pore didnt invite and open door to all FTs to come here.....?! [rolleyes]

I remember Chee Soon Juan was once arrested at the gates of the Istana for trying to do a one man protest. If TJS is President, CSJ can walk in and out of Istana freely as a guest, maybe even open a bookshop at the gates. Heck, everytime TJS receives a head of state from overseas, CSJ could be right there psycho-ing the foreign dignitaries.

It's too funny to say no to, dont you think? Something positive to keep us going while we endure till 2016.

Seriously, you think these people care? I have a Chinaman colleague converted to be a Singaporean citizen...even went through National Service but he has zero loyalty to Singapore. He even told me if he wanted to migrate back to China....China would welcome him back with open arms.

Last time during my sec school have a prc classmate, spore citizen. He also Go ns, ord liao den migrate to Australia n give up Singapore citizenship. There is no loyalty here among ft. If they sick of this place, chances come they will pack their bag n settle somewhere else.
