Go Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, USA, South America, Europe, Russia, etc most of the natives do not have a favourable impression of their local and foreign Chinese. They can be Indonesian Chinese, Vietnam Chinese, Malaysian Chinese, Philippine Chinese, Thai Chinese, Singaporean Chinese, whatever Chinese but let me assure you, their haolian, kiasu, selfish and mercenary behaviour really turns the other races against them. When one is Chinese, one cannot wash the stink of greed and money-face off ourselves.

Let me put it this way. Throughout history, Chinese people wherever they migrate to, work hard from rags to riches. After getting successful, they love to show off and display their success in many ways, be it connections with powerful people, treating people badly, "makaning" and taking advantage of the poorer or even driving a nice new car.

 

I have Indonesian blood relatives on my father's side and the way they do business and make money off the locals really makes you wonder why the locals don't kill them. It is the same everywhere, philippines, thailand, etc. They are not called jews of asia for nothing. In the USA, aussie and UK, you often see Chinese driving nice car and throwing their weight around while the poorer blacks, hispanics and whites view them with envy and some hatred.

while it is true chinese tend to give higher weightage to "face" issue, saying all chinese like to show off and fleece others is just a sweeping statement.

 

there are still a lot of chinese who do not bother about showing off and even more percentage who do not fleece people

 

the case you illustrated relates to businessman and due to the industry they are in, businessman are generally more cunning and sly.

 

i can easily find and quote you other examples of sly and unethical businessman from other races.

If i am a landlord, i will not want to rent out my room to someone who keeps dogs or cats. That is just my preference. Reason - pets may damage furnitures. Is this wrong?

 

Likewise, if i chose not to rent out my unit to someone of another race, that will also be my preference. Reason - don't like certain smell of spices to be lingering around the house.

 

Wrong? It is all about my personal preferences isnt it?
