NSF dies while participating in navigation exercise

SINGAPORE: A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) full-time National Serviceman (NSF) died on Tuesday during a navigation exercise.

 

Specialist Cadet (SCT) Ee Chun Sheng, 21, was found unconscious at about 5.11pm while participating in the exercise at Ama Keng Training Area at Lim Chu Kang.

 

An SAF medic went on site and tried to resuscitate SCT Ee at about 5.15pm. The serviceman was evacuated via a safety vehicle to the Tengah Air Base Medical Centre and arrived at about 5.39pm where an SAF doctor attended to him.

 

SCT Ee was then sent by ambulance to the National University Hospital (NUH) at 6.05pm and arrived at 6.32pm. SAF doctor and medic continued to resuscitate him enroute to the hospital.

 

SCT Ee was pronounced dead at 9.03pm at NUH.

 

The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family of the late SCT Ee. The SAF is assisting the family in their time of grief and is investigating the incident.

surprisingly, they didn't stop the exercise immediately as i drove pass jalan bahar road around 545pm and i still see 2 soliders with FBO/rifle walking along the pavement with map. they look shack indeed.

A navigation exercise is not that strenous, It's a standard field trip thing...

I wonder if it's an accident or something else...

Should have stick to virtual navigation...

 

same as to the other with a grenade blowing up...

 

should have stick to the one where he virtually loads his launcher in a computer game! [laugh][laugh]

maybe its due to dehydration? i came back from ICT 2 weeks ago and had an outfield at nee soon.....damm freaking HOT weather....

No need aviod NS so extreme liao. If can arrange for some office clerk job in the Home Team very good liao.

 

That's what we gona try to do for our son. But he now only 4 yrs old nia........ [laugh]

sad news...not wonder people will try all ways to defer or siam NS.....

my son is 5 yrs old....to me as long as u go to the field...there's danger.....

could be heat injury case. maybe did not hydrate sufficiently. weather these days very hot at noon!!

 

but why was this guy found unconscious alone and not with buddy?

or nowadays soldiers are required to topo alone?

I think with the hot weather nowadays it is possible that there will be more heat stroke or dehydration cases which can be more serious. Actually, sometimes it is possible that a person can be too engrossed in the activity, then forget to drink enough water.

 

What to do? Perhaps some innovative fellow can come up with a reminder beeper device, attach to the water canteen, keep beeping until the user rehydrate regularly... not very tactical, though!

our world class scholars can come with an invention - a time released water capsules which can pack in 5 litres of water in 1 small capsule. soldiers just need to take 1 capsule w some water and it will provide continuously hydration for the next 4 hours.

my secondary school friend si beh heng one.

 

Kena drafted into Police and thereafter given a choice to either join NPP near his house or Coast Guard or Poilce Outram HQ as clerk.

 

Basket.......he choose clerk job. Everyday go home. Even did degree nite classes during NS. That was more then 10 years ago.

 

So heng one....... [laugh]
