Flushing Your Engine With Additives May Not be a Good Idea

I may not be correct but this is my experience. I bought a bottle of Voltronic engine flush (those type which you just add to oil and idle for 10-15min before draining).

After I replace the oil, I realised that the engine was not smoother than before. My FC actually went up. I gotten around 1KM less per litre of petrol. I need around 600KM before the engine feels good and FC back to normal.

I am guessing that the engine flush actually removed too much things esp. the anti-wear and friction reducing coatings that were left behind, hence causing more friction.

Thus, it may not be a great idea to flush the engine except when you really need to clean the sludgetc (if there is any). If the engine is well maintained with regular oil change, then it may not be necessary to flush at all.

As our weather is all year round HOT....and we do not keep the car unused for 2-3months.....there is low chance for sludge or scums or carbon to built up.

Flushing is not necessary.

How long you keep the car? Ten years? Just change a new car with a new engine!

Certain things that other countries do are not necessary here.

Supersonic

Use a good quality engine oil which has a good balance of detergency, anti-wear, lub properties and you won't need to worry about addling engine flush later on.

Engine flush is basically solvent.

In my opinion, I believe engine flush is for old cars.

I find that regular servicing is a more efficient preventive maintenance measure as compared to flushing the engine.

I have never flush my engine in my current ride which is over 120k mileage and also in my previous car which is a COE of more than 14 years old.

I agreed. The reason I flush it is because I gotten the car not too long ago, hence I am unsure of the engine condition. Thus decide to do a flush before I change oil. But it turns out that the previous owner did maintain the car pretty well and a flush is not needed at all.

Wel, at least you did it and now know more about your car. :D

I have to agree. I think new cars doesn't need one at all.
