Went to Challenger for help, and was told SONY BR need to use own adaptor. Something proprietory thing. Popped in the Sony USB and it worked straight away, just plug and play. ↡ Advertisement
Unltd 5th Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 most blu ray player can play any region DVD (even region ZERO) but blu ray players are usually region locked for blu rays the big consideration is that once start with Blus, you will not bother going back to DVDs liao. I did a lot of research on which player upconverts DVD to HD the best cos I got a big collection of DVDs. after I bot the player I basically converted my collection to blu. once you drive 4L car, you will not go back to 1.5L!!! Uhmm... Not wanting to burst your bubble, but when you convert DVD to BluRay, there is no improvement in picture quality. If you use upscaling, it is dependent on the software and chip processing the upscale and it is artificial, not real. If the source is limited, there is nothing much you can do. On the other hand if you burn BluRay to DVDs, it is possible to retain the quality, you just need more discs. BluRay as a technology allows more space than DVD as the laser emitted from the diode is smaller, thus uses less space to read and write on a single flat surface. Essentially, it simply means more space for memory, BluRay by itself provides no improvement in quality.

5936 1st Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 So if I were to get a BR player, I'll buy one with built-in wireless adaptor. Not those Wi-Fi ready.
Thedream 3rd Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 So if I were to get a BR player, I'll buy one with built-in wireless adaptor. Not those Wi-Fi ready. One thing I noted was that the wireless models cost ~$150 more than the ethernet models for some brands. For this price difference, can consider getting powerline adaptors instead. Speed should be faster and more reliable than wireless. This should be useful for streaming video (within home network or from the Internet) or if you have more than just your Blu-ray player that you want to network up... Dashingd Neutral Newbie August 2, 2011 Share August 2, 2011 hi guys, sorry to hijack this thread but thought my question to be related. Anyone knows where to get a blu ray player cleaner? I was told by LG (when I brought my blu ray player in for repairs) that blu ray players have 2 heads, 1 for DVD another for blu ray (anyone can confirm this?). Therefore if you use the normal DVD head cleaners, it doesn't help the blu ray cleaner... ↡ Advertisement
