I am posting this not because I bought a just gotten a Satria Neo. But having test drive other hatch backs like Swift and Jazz, I must say for the price its not a bad car.

It handles very well with its stock suspension and good high speed stability. Even at 190KM/H, can feel the car hugging the road and the bumps on the road. There is no "floating" feel.

For cornering, it has some understeer but its quite forgiving. Even when the rear does lose grip, it does not snap out suddenly and easily allows me to regain control of the car.

Its short wheel base and low height also makes it very agile. Its like a point and shoot car.

Of course, the interior isn't anything fantastic (mostly plastic) but since its cheaper than most Jap/Korean makes, I can't exactly complain too much.

Overall, I am impressed. This is my first venture in Malaysian cars and I have to say I am impressed.

Sorry to inform you, my Avante cost less than the Satria Neo back in 2009. That's why I bought the Avante. Regretting a bit now cos the aftermarket parts market for Avante is virtually non-existent! [laugh]

Yes, it's double happiness to drive a Proton car. When you go Msia, you change the car plate, you can pump RON 95 ..... that's good!! [laugh]

my real bro had a late 90s 1.6 Wira for a few years, never heard him make any complaints, in fact he's quite happy with it :D

Dont judge the car by the cover.

There are more then just 4 wheels, an engine and a body.

When Myvi was launched, fellow Malaysian rushed to get it and it overtook Proton as the most favourite "local" car.

Maybe Satria is be one of the more decent cars Proton has made?

I drive a lot of Proton rental cars in MY, whenever I am there for business.

Amongst the Proton models, I find that the Waja is their best-handling one.

This was later underscored, when I took the AD's Waja test car round Jervois Road twice, at high speed.

I am quite impressed with its Lotus-tuned handling. At that time, I found that my IS200 (being an F/R RWD, with near 50:50 weight distribution and front/rear double wishbone suspensions) handled better (of course) than the Waja ... but I can say that it is worth its salt re handling and balance ... approaching that of Conti FWD cars like the Citroen.

At that time, I found the Waja to have bettered the Honda Civic (the model before FD) test car re handling and cornering round Jervois Road.

But other than handling, I find the Proton's interior using cheap & brittle plastics, weak body rigidity (some rental cars vibrate like crazy at speeds >140 km/h ... e.g. the Wira and Persona, much more so than the Waja) and overall NVH a bit of a turnoff. Perhaps the Perdana is more stable at high speeds - it being a larger model.

I have also test driven the Satria Neo, but was overall unimpressed - at least not as much as the Waja did.

So if you want a fun car to chuck around, that won't burn a hole in your pocket, the Waja may be it. But I don't think the Waja is in production any more. Maybe a Waja II (like the Saga II)?

Even if they do not release one, count on bolehland's backyard tuners to built one out of a normal inspira, 4B11 engine, evo x 4wd system and some cable ties...... [laugh]
