Sp33dst3r Neutral Newbie July 26, 2011 Share July 26, 2011 Beside Motul and Redline, what other oil are also Group V ester base oil? http://www.technilube.com/faqs_info/base_oils.php ↡ Advertisement
Satria_neo Clutched July 26, 2011 Share July 26, 2011 So far, I have only heard of Motul and Redline using Ester base stocks. Most of the companies are using PAO. However, additives used in the oil is considered more important than base stock. This is because base stock alone do not provide sufficient protection for the engine. You need anti-wear and scuffing additives, cleaning agents, anti-foaming etc..... Lots of additives are needed. Of course there are certain conditions where base stock is considered very important due to operating environment but it does not apply to street cars. Solar Turbocharged July 28, 2011 Share July 28, 2011 get 5w40 or higher. better to change every 5,000km. may not be necessary to change every 5k. recommended oci for me is 10k.. been doing that since my car broken-in. 5yrs now, no funny noise, no engine damage or performance loss. 5k is probably for those who track or heavily modded.. the thrashing may have badly cooked the oil
Satria_neo Clutched July 29, 2011 Share July 29, 2011 Yes agreed. How long your oil can last largely depends on your driving tool. City driving. Numerous col starts etc definitely shorten lifespan of the oil.

Mona-vie 1st Gear July 30, 2011 Share July 30, 2011 For TC cars, 10K is not recommended. You will end up killing your turbo bearings in the long run. Stick with 5K instead.

If NA 10K no problem, if TC not recommended. This is because the oil is also used to cool and lubricate your turbo bearings. ↡ Advertisement
