I don't there will be any issue. As long as the overall diameter is the same, which I believe it should. After all, the spare is meant to be used to get you to a tyre shop and be driven at reasonable speed.

The tirekit and runflat tires cannot guard or fix a sidewall crack/fracture of the tire. I found that out in my return drive from KL.

I guess for u its ok to leave the spare at home if u dont drive up to Malaysia alot......

I use Airman tire kit. It's always in my boot.

Keep my spare at home as it's only 17" while my staggered tires are 19".

Thats what i thought too, but the tire shop says the diameter or width of the tires r different if i am on staggered profile. I am currently on the following;

Front: 235/35 R19

Rear: 265/30 R19

Tire shop says they cannot guarantee if the spare will fit the front AND back rims due to different tire width....even though the rim size is 19" for front and rear....

Thats what I thought, but the tire shop say may have problem...rims may not be able to fit...to be sure they told me get two spares!!!

Anyway I will get a 235/35 R19 as spare (perfect match to front set) and ask them to try to fit to the rear rim. If it fits i will just get the spare and chuck it in the boot.....thks heaps

The diff in overall diameter between the front and back is just over 0.6mm. Should be ok.

(edited)

I still don't understand why it can be fitted. Unless the PCD, etc has been altered (which I doubt it did).

Why don't you ask tyre shop to try fitting the spare wheel to both front and back to be sure?

er sorry r u saying it cannot be fitted? Maybe i misunderstood u previously

anyway i am going to do what u propose, i.e. get them to fit the spare in the front and rear rims just to make sure....only worry perhaps is the offsets...

TS, doesnt your car already come with a spare?

Or is it on runflat so it comes without spare?

If so, dont bother.

I purposely removed my spare.

Dont need the extra weight.

I'm running on 245 and 275 staggered AMGs

i'm running 235 front, 265 rears. i put a tire repair kit (the ones that releases foam to fill up the internals of the tire) in the boot. took out the spare tire. if u have an equivalent size spare tire, then ur only concern is if it clears ur brakes with the correct offset. otherwise ur spare is good enuff to bring u to the tire shop.(drive slowly).

Sorry I meant 'can't' instead of can

Sorry BMWs have no spare, there is no compartment for a spare, they come with stock runflats which i changed from 17" to 19" low profile staggered rims.

Runflats only give a false sens of confidence. If there is a sidewall crack or fracture the tire will still fail. Thats why a spare is still needed for long haul drives to Malaysia and i do clock alot of highspeed miles on the north south...

I had a sidewall fracture in my left rear wheel last week and was stranded just 80km from Singapore....i used the tire repair kit (prob the same one u have), and it inflated the tire for awhile before it went flat again.

The tire kit CANNOT repair a side-wall crack/puncture. I did not know it was a side wall crack untill they removed the tire as the crack occure on tne inner wall of the tire.

The funny thing was that i had clocked well over 1000km back and forth in this trip and at sustained speeds between 160-200kph with no problems. Infact THE TIRE WAS STILL INFLATED WHEN I PULLED UP TO THE PETROL STATION for the last top-up before hitting singapore. It was only after 5-10 mins when the tire cooled that the fracture opened up and all the air deflated at one go with a pro-long psssss....my buddies and i just stand and look with open mouth and unbelieving eyes...

anyway just becareful....take note...runflats and tire repair kit cannot replace a spare tire and they cannot fix or prevent a side-walll fracture of the tire.

hmm.... this is what I thought too.

The tyre width in the front and the back will be different in the staggered setup scenario, but as long as the rolling diameter is the same, it should be fine in the case of a spare tyre.

Did the tyre shop explain to you why it will not work? Maybe they are trying to sell you 1 more spare tyre. [whip]

hmmm.... mine has a compartment for a spare but the car DID not come with one, only RFTs. [knife]

Anyway, I always remove the spare (when there is one) and put it in the store as I do not drive out the country. [:p]
