Siewss 1st Gear July 21, 2011 Share July 21, 2011 I'm currently on S1 Evo which has travelled 45,000km with the thread depth down to the last 2mm. It's been a decent set of tyres, serving me well in the dry as well as on the wet. Other than ME01 (comfort) and RS3 (hardcore tracking), I don't believe there are other offerings from Hankook, particularly S1 Evo replacement. I'm inclined to purchase another set of S1 Evo, but I'm feeling bored staying with the same tyre for another 45,000km, so another part of me is keen to try other UHPs from Goodyear or Bridgestone. Are there petrolheads who stick to S1 Evo for all their replacements? or most who have tried S1 Evo proceeded to other brand of tyres? ↡ Advertisement

Sparetyre Neutral Newbie July 21, 2011 Share July 21, 2011 I'm also on my 2nd set of S1 Evo, but have only done about 2000km on both sets. 1st set was 17" and was used for about 1000km. Then upgraded to 19" rims and also mounted the S1 Evo. I like the dry & wet grip and best of all, value for money!
Jchuacl Clutched July 21, 2011 Share July 21, 2011 Once you go on to better tyres, it'll be hard to turn back. If you like hardcore tyres, Yoko/BS high end tyres are the ones as their grip levels are more progressive and easier to control. If you want comfort, then Michelin will be the one. I stay away from Goodyear as I don't trust the strength of their sidewall. Pirellis are a bit outdated, so I stay away from them as well. As for Goodyear (RS02, Eagle F1 Asym), I agree with Jchua that they are not progressive although their grip levels I feel are higher than the s1evo. i'm not due for a change, but right now i'm biased towards sticking with s1evo... Jchuacl Clutched July 21, 2011 Share July 21, 2011 Pirelli just returned to F1 this year, but I've yet to see anything of the technology going to their real world tyres. yes some of the tyres stated here are pretty good actually F1 is using pirelli tyres

Not the greatest of tyres, but sufficient for the roads here and up north. I have one of those itches that prompted me to look elsewhere, but like you, I'm mostly drawn to the VFM factor. I'm currently on my 4th set of S1 Evo, from my Euro R (3 sets) to my current ride! Seriously at this price, it's pretty hard to find a equivalent. Just my 2 cents. :)

The problem with hardcore tyres is that they are biased towards dry grip. Wet grip is very important to me, after learning from a few incidences of slithering like a snake on wet surfaces. That's one thing I will not want to sacrifice. I was on GY F1 GSD3 (Made in Australia) once, and I know what you mean by sidewall strength. All 4 of my tyres had semi-invisible circumferential cracks. It's a wonder it didn't explode during highspeed cruising. I heard F1 Asymmetrics also suffer the same fate. There are always BETTER HARDCORE tyres, but at what PRICE? and what COMPROMISE? For my usage right now, grip and comfort and cost have to come hand-in-hand (though they are mostly at separate ends). Gone are the days where I used the extreme Yoko AVS Sports and this S1 Evo is a good fit for my usage right now.

I'd be changing a fresh set of tyres every one and a half month! haha.... it is not like that bro. I am not that rich! Happened that my stock 17" tyres were finished and due to the heavy rainfalls during the month of May, I proceeded to change the worn out Goodyear RFTs to the S1 Evo. Then within 2 weeks of that, I saw this set of 19" rims that I wanted for a long while and went ahead and bought that. Thus the 2 sets of tyres within a period of about 2+ months. ↡ Advertisement
