Does it work with cars with solar film? I believe the normal transition lens doesn't work in car with solar film.

Transition lens work best in cool climate conditions, I dunno whether is it becos of the relative humidity. In sgp actually it can only work up to a certain limit, not very dark. In a car with tinting, even less. When I was in HK or US the tinting on my regular glasses can get very dark but not in sgp. With sunglasses transition I think it's a waste of your money. Any sunglasses with high % UV ray protection will do the job.

I chanced upon this web today.

I was hoping for polarise clear at night. but only amber.

My wife's transition glasses changed shade. Maybe need to discuss further. Different types of film constructions, materials?

Your wife bought cheap ones. Probably not the Transition brand. There are cheap brands out there but quality not as good. My lens more dan 2 years, didn't change shade.

The reason is these photochromic lens reacts to UV light. Any decent solar film would have blocked 99% UV light. That's why transition lens hardly work in the car with solar film. If yours changes , time to question the performance of your solar film.

So the new SOLFX, since it said was design for driving usage, I was wondering does it work with solar film.

I am not a science people but for the sake of discussion.

Based on your personal experience with transition, the control for the shade change may not be visiable light.

I suspect the control is UV and respond with shade/colour change.

High UV = dark shade

Low UV = light shade

No UV = clear

Hope my Tikum is correct.

Looking at the SOLFX thing as having a pair of glasses to fit all purposes.

When I first bought it the sales person told me the lens work best in US. I was like huh? Dan she told me it's the cool weather there.

When I was in HK, the weather was foggy all the while I was there. My glasses looked like sunglasses even with no sun.

The UV ray is there one lah, no horse run, it's just that it works best on certain climate conditions.

I think it's because at more northern latitudes, the atmospheric layer is slightly thinner and therefore more UV rays, even though you don't really feel hot and humid. Anybody tried transition lenses in middle eastern countries? [laugh]

Anyone tried this and where to get? It is polarized and auto change lens colors. Drivewear

If you search the Drivewear site they will give you an eyeglass place near you. I got mine with vision insurance. Without a prescription you can get them on Amazon, or at a Department store. My Drivewear lenses are in Maui Jim frames.

Drivewear are an improvement on the old kind because they also react to visible light as well as UV. The Drivewear lens has three stages, they darken for the conditions under any light including inside a car with the top up, or down.

Drivewear works well in the tropics, as well as the arctic.

Humidity has nothing to do with it. The lenses respond to light. The darkest setting lets in only 10% of light, just like normal Maui Jim sunglasses.

In a car with tinting, even less.
In a car they generally let in 25%, more inside a tunnel.

You miss the point. In your case I would say don

When I saw this, i was like wow, so convenient. AIO.

My Smith Optics glasses came with interchangable lens, amber, mirror clear, chopper, polarise grey.

But got to change them manually, after a while, a bit loose.

Seriously speaking, your experience does affect my views.

I dont know if its as good as they claimed.

So I will stand at side line and watch.

cheers

Just bought a pair of spec-cover brown-tint polarized sunglass in Esso Tiger Mart today. [thumbsup]:D

Been contemplating over a prescription sunglass, but very very ex!!!

Current gray clip-on is good for sunny days, but when driving over shady areas and covered carparks, it blocks out too much light => less confidence.

Overall, brown seems to be a better fit for me.

Still at understanding stage.

Haven't decided if I will buy,

But the temptation if there.

I have Rayban Driving series, not polarised, but I find it too dark.

Also have the Polaroid polarise glasses. OK to use for bright sunning day. and it is also heavy.

Looking for something to wear during rain and night driving. There are yellow polarised glasses for this purpose, but not sure if it actually work or just psychological.

Try those from Esso stations. 39.90 bucks

I used to have dark grey polarized lens from Esso station and now Im using the yellow polarized lens now, but not from Esso station.

The yellow one can be used in darker environment. Yellow lens actually brightens your vision and reduce glare at same time.
