I've used W30 and W40 on a 18 years old car before.

Seriously, not much difference la. There's a thousand and one theories to explain why you shouldn't or should do this or that. What engine protection la, save fuel, blah blah blah...

I would say, don't need to worry to much la... How much difference in damage can there be if you not those hardcore track racers?

Sometimes we drivers over concern about our 'big' investment liao.

Tell people smoking bad for health, people still smoke like nobody business.

Eat char kway teow high cholestrol, everyone still eat.

Tell us something bad for car, all of us so concern over it...

WTH... Haha, sometimes we really must look at laugh at ourselves.

Anyway, I use W30 cos that is the only known brand i can find in workshop. Mileage 100k.

Hey guys, anyone know any shops where I can get bodykits for my Atrex? The left side of my front bumper is kinda loose, so after driving for awhile it'll keep opening up. When my gf brought it to BMS for servicing, the boss said no way to fix it, gotta replace lol.

Looking for a reliable and decently priced shop in Sg, or MAYBE Jb. Might wanna change to CF bonnet as well to mod the outlook of my ride hehe.

and so i went to change springs at Foo bros. lowering springs on, rubbing sound came out front right upon humps & ramps, 2 wks passed and now even on tiny bumps. explanation given first was, absorber give way (due to spring change, not workmanship). secondly, suspension works harder now that it's lowered. 3rdly, rubbing sound may not be from absorber at all (yet as temp fix, the absorber was lubricated-doh) mech claim the sound was reduced... not in my opinion it ain't.

my qns:

if it is due to spring change, why does the sound pop only at 1 spot, not 4 or 2 front/left?

the stock suspension system including arms etc move in wider range of up and down compared to lowered with lesser movement, so rubbing logically should be lesser still, if any

so if i change back to stock, sound be gone? (yes, if issue is reversible unfortunately)

shop replied, it's not so simple lah.. change the absorber, check the arms, etc.

yes perhaps not so simple, but the explanation given fails to convince me. now i have doubts on shop's reliability or workmanship.

sorry if sounded ranting, just sharing.

How long u use your stock absorber? Yes, lower spring doesnt really work well with stock absorber. Prolong use it will actually spoil your absorber due to difference spring rate. Best is to use coilover.

The control arm bushing and other undercarriage part might causes sound too. Before you change lower spring got any sound? If yes, it is obvious that your absorber has problem lo.

If on budget, some people will change lowering springs 1st and use it with stock shocks till the shocks give way then change the shocks to aftermarket ones. But note the comfort level of the car will decrease while handling and stability will increase. Maybe you can go to your trusted workshop to get them to access your shocks condition before committing to change them. It may also simply be the case whereby when you were on stock springs and shocks, its softer thats why you do not hear the noises. When you changed to the lowering springs, car becomes more stiffer, thats why can hear the rattling noises. Part and parcel of stiffening the car's suspension. (At least its normal for normal bread and butter cars, unless the car is more of luxurious ones then different. Pay more get more)

no, the suspensions are as quiet as a mouse before changing.

the lowering spring is not that stiff imho compared to stock, i install Eibach ProKit which imho doesn't drop nor stiff as much as other lowering springs. It fits my budget and besides, it is said to be similar to stock with less body roll of which i'm after. Anyway, i managed to check myself both front absorbers. Jacked up each side, remove tires. Damn heavy lah tried to push up the arms. See see look look, wiggle the spring, check the absorber plungers, all seems ok, no signs of rubbing.

drove for a while, over humps, the rubbing sound still there but less loud (or is it just me driving with more caution) LOL.

aside that, car handles superbly on bends.

turtle power!

sorry, missed out earlier, MY06 so that's about 5.5yrs.

According to spring mfg, it is meant to work with stock absorber. well, how much truth in that i shall find out later.

yes i'm aware of increased wear n tear packaged with stiffer ride.

i will check other possible cause of the noise, thanks for pointing that out.

thanks guys!
