actually what LKY said is true to a certain extent... only thing is he shld not write off the rest as some of the older folks did not hv a gd educate due to many reasons.. not necessary genes... like my father... though he only has primary 6 education... i think he will probably do ok if given the chance to continue his studies....

1st he says low income people are physically, intellectually and culturally anaemic.

At first i dont agree with him. But as u guys can see, majority of the pple here are whiners who most probably lead underacheiving lives, hold mediocre jobs and blame everyone but themselves for their situation (you can flame me but you cant deny).

Therefore, its hard to argue that most pple are born to be second place. Otherwise, everyone would be high flyers who have nothing to whine about on an internet forum.

Who say high flyers have nothing to whine about in internet forum... Even phd scholars also whine in internet forum.. It is when people cannot get their concern heard by government.. So where to put the voice/concern.. One way is to whine in internet forum lor.. Some people may feel better after talking it out In forum.. And sometimes one never know.. A voice in forum could be read by government and if too many people voice the same issue... Government may realize hey it is actually a concern for many Singaporeans. Just like if people do not complain about influx of FT/FW, will government willing to look into the influx of foreigners issue?

first we must understand that he is coming from the "head of the family" point of view....

let me give an analogy (though may not be appropriate)

imagine he has 10 kids.... and out of the 10 kids... 2 of them are "promising" and goes all the way to university....

the other 5 are ok...

then the other 2 cannot make it in studies....

he wants someone to take over his "family business"..

so in his mind, the head of the family thinks "hmmm.. seemed like one of the 2 graduates will be a good choice to take over my biz" (biz = running of singapore)

then he realise that these 2 probably do not want to get married... then next time the biz will hv no future

so he is worried... thus he write in his will... to inherit my biz... u need to get married and hv kids

then he think.... wouldn't it be better if my sons married a daughter of another business man?

then he will say if any of you marry a rich man daughter... i will give u a house each....

 

think he "saw" the trend of local graduate women not getting married ....

 

one thing i notice... couple A may make $15k & above and say that hving a kid is tough.. then couple B with combined income of 5k has 3 kids........and never complain

maybe he would rather couple A have more babies since they can afford....

however couple A will opt for lifestyle instead...

 

sometimes we saw on TV... a couple with income of abt 2k.. hv 3 or 4 kids... struggling to make ends meet... husband is sole bread winner then wife dun work....
