Bossbthk Clutched July 11, 2011 Share July 11, 2011 hi, i reckon this will be funny but need some opinion ... recently just switch wheel to 18" from stock 16". was wondering some day *touch wood* if i got a puncture, can the car still 3 18" and 1 16" ?? my imagination is that it will somehow wreak the suspension. else i thought of having jus tyre repair kit ... and remove the spare from the boot. any expert care to share ?? ↡ Advertisement
ER-3682 Twincharged July 11, 2011 Share July 11, 2011 Not a problem, the spare is just for temporary use, once you patch the tires, you will change back, anyway, now alot of cars come with "SpaceSaver" spare,it is smaller than standard...
Tigershark1976 Turbocharged July 11, 2011 Share July 11, 2011 (edited) so long the height of the tyre is around the same, it should be okie. having to say that. you are not suppose to drive fast with spare tyre anyway.... Watwheels Supersonic July 11, 2011 Share July 11, 2011 So long as the overall wheel diameter remains the same it's alright.
Tayspiderx 3rd Gear July 12, 2011 Share July 12, 2011 Think most space savers r at least 2 inch smaller. by right you should only travel less than 70kmph on space saver.

5936 1st Gear July 13, 2011 Share July 13, 2011 (edited) If rolling circumference remains unchanged, or slightly different ,it is OK to retain it. Otherwise, yo can fo down to scrap yard or some tyre shop to hunt for the compact tyre to match the changed dimension. Funifasaid Neutral Newbie July 20, 2011 Share July 20, 2011 sorry for a noob qn. don't we need to maintain the spare tyre at the right pressure once in a while? cos if suay2 got tyre prob, no point in changing an under-inflated spare tyre. so how often actually do u guys maintain a spare tyre? or do u guys even take the spare tyre out? haha! Dark_flan 2nd Gear July 22, 2011 Share July 22, 2011 I took my spare tyres out and discard it in my previous company's warehouse due to make vehicle lighter and more economical. Also the new rim is larger by 2 in more therefore might not be advisable to use anymore. Now there is a smaller system whereby just do pumping and the tyre is patched. Considering to buy that just in case though.
Hamburger Hypersonic July 22, 2011 Share July 22, 2011 it does not matter whether you upgrade another 2"or 3", its the overall diameter that is all important. i am running on 225/45/18 but my spare is 215/60/16. It can be use as spare accordingly.....
NightWind 4th Gear July 23, 2011 Share July 23, 2011 er your 16" spare has its own rims? if not can it fit on 18" rims? Tire repair kit cannot fix side-wall fracture.....so its not a 100% perfect replacement for a spare.... Hide Neutral Newbie July 23, 2011 Share July 23, 2011 hi bros, i read somewhere that the spare tyres if different size, should be used on the rear only as it may affect handling if used at the front. Especially for the space saver...
Larlee Neutral Newbie July 23, 2011 Share July 23, 2011 Hi, I have upgraded my rims to 17" and brakes to BBK. spare rim is 15", i doubt it will fix. how do i go about if the front type suffer damaged on the side wall in MY? I was thinking, since my rear rims are drum brakes and still stock, should the front tyre suffer damage, can i swap rear to front and spare to the rear? can this work? Especially for the space saver... spare are meant to be driven at moderate speed and to do a patch up asap. Front or back dont matter in a short distance. ↡ Advertisement
