Question on BBK and ABS

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am on 4-pot BBK for 2mths plus. Over the past 2 weeks, whenever I brake normally at high speed around 90km/h, I feel a strong plusating vibration to the steering wheel. The mechanic says that's the ABS kicking in due to the pressure from the BBK. The same does not happen at normal speeds below 70km/h.

Is this normal? Or is it my tyres that are not grippy enough? They are at 7000kms and 1yr old.

How can I solve the issue?

Thanks

A few things to check . . .

1. I would suspect the rotors are warpped . . . . if they are used ones.

2. Another thing to look out for is if the rotor and hats are fastened properly.

3. The caliper brackets are fastened properly.

4. The rims are hubcentric correct.

This is a big load of bull . . . . . . unless the road is wet, very wet . . . . . and you're stampped on the brakes.

Rotors are new. I'll check the rest. Didn't have this problem when I got the set 2 mths ago. Strange.

Is it possible on dry road with tyres that dun grip well under normal braking?

Unless you really slammed on the brakes and one of the wheels is trying to lockup.

Maybe you want to goggle and understand how ABS works.

most likely rotors warped. refrain from washing your rims or brakes after long hours or driving during dry weather.

another possibility , did you change your rear brakes as well? if not maybe you can try upgrading your rear brakes as well so under hard braking ,

your car "sits" instead of diving forward.

the abs thingy is b-------t.i've used brakes up to 10 pot before and no such issue.

i think what you are experiencing is when you brake it is quite noisy as the pistons are working its way on the rotors and there is a very slight vibration on the BBK.......this is normal as the energy has to go somewhere with the strong clamping.

The only time i feel it to be different is when i brake really hard due to red light or car cut in and the ABS kicks in......this you feel the difference as it feels like a tree branch has gone into the rotors...

It's a strong pulsating effect. The steering wheel gets unsteady. I have stopped driving my car until I get it fixed. Sought a second opinion and confirmed rotor warped. Now waiting for a replacement set.

If rotors are new from 2 months ago, a cheap fix will be skimming them.

BTW what BBK and rotors are you using ?

Don't think it's ABS kicking in, did you install slotted rotors? I suspect the rotor may be warp.

Beside the steering wheel, did you also feel it from the brake pedal? It kind of grinding feel and you can also hear it, if it just vibration on the steering wheels, possibilities are like what bros here had said its due to warped rotor. It could be the also pad warped or wear off, wheel bearings and lyres.

2 months only and rotor wrap?

a little too fast and something is wrong, can't expect to keep changing rotor every 2 months right?
