what is our worth as NSmen? recently I received my Good Service Medal (5 years). However what saddened me was that, i received the medal through postage mailing. I was thinking what could have been happened that resulted in postage mailing? Is it because an NSF screwed up the job or was it the norm?

So do I conclude that our worth is only as good as postage mailed medal?

In my unit, the medal is given to the NSman when he returns for ICT.

Have you finished your ICT liability? If you have no more ICT and the clerk called u to return back to camp to collect the medal, will you take 1/2day leave and return to camp to collect a medal? I doubt most of us would so mailing is the next best choice.

If they called you to return to collect the medal, I'm quite sure you will post a thread saying SAF is dumb to call you back just for a medal...

Ps: im not the ns clerk who mailed you the medal [:p]

To be honest, if they send you SAF100 to attend a medal presentation parade, you will be lagi TL :D You got to rehearse in the morning, then stand in the hot sun in the afternoon.

Exactly, thats why mailing the thread starter is the best alternative...

Give medal by mail -> complain

Don't give medal - > I think will also complain

Give SAF100 to go back collect medal - > I think will complain also

That's why my NS OC said "we cannot please everyone, just do whats best for ourselves"

cheers- counting down to my last ICT

Not that I agree with our FT policy. But those who complain about FT not doing NS, better have at least 2-3 children to fill the gap. [laugh] [laugh] This is your 2nd phase of NS after ROD.

Had it years back when having ICT. There is no elaborate or formal ceremony requiring rehearsals or marching. It was presented by CO during CO closing address (just walk up, shake hands and get the thingy in exchange [laugh]) and sometimes with some finger foods after it.

Think this is the best compromise.

Yes but if the threadstarter has no more ICT, then mailing is the best option.

So anyone MR whether any watch or award?

A Victorinox watch and Montblanc pen. The latter was given because I extended a few years to ROD with my NS unit.

lets get this clear. national service is a duty, so dont ever think you should get any award or reward for doing it.

then why not you volunteer to do your DUTY twice.... extend you ICT for another cycle.
