Is it safe to drive with a leaking tyre?

As above.

My tyre lost about 23.6% of the tyre pressure within a week.

I normally pump the 2 front tyres 250. But about a week later, my front left is 236 and my front right is 196. A drastic drop.

Can I still continue to drive it? Actually, it has been like this for weeks. But just that I pump every few days to compensate the loss. My tyres are reaching 40K (38Kplus) and 2 years in a month more time. Should I change now, or should I tahan until 40k?

I was in the same situation as you a few months back.

Pump all 4 tyres 240 and within a week front left drop to 180-190. All the others still remain close to 240.

Found out that there's a nail.

Problem solved after sending to tyre shop to remove nail and patch up for $10.

My tyres lasted me 60k. It varies as different drivers have different style of driving and also use different tyres. (eg: threadwear....)

Some only last 40k while some can last till 70k.

Check your thread level so determine whether to have it change anot.

Why don't you have someone check for leaks ? Perhaps there's a nail ?

I've visually checked through the tyre, but no nail was seen.

The one with the nail was the rear left tyre. But it was patched some time ago.

I've used the coin test a few months back, where a 50cent (or was it 20cents?) coin is used to determine the depth. It was already in the red zone where it indicates the need to change the tyre. But as it was still quite some time from 2 years and 40K, hence I ignored it.

If that's the case, just change the tyres. Why do you have to wait for 2yrs/40km?

But if you don't want to change [rolleyes] then just have it patched. It's quite cheap should be <$10.

Coz 2 years/40K is the guide that many people suggest to use the tyres till. So I just follow... [laugh]

I patched my rear tyre for about 10 bucks a few months back.

Maybe like what you and the others say, just go and check it again. Maybe the nail is in a not easy to see part of the tyre. Sianz... [:(]

I had the same experience, tyre drop in pressure. After checking, it is due to a small nail. Must get it patched asap, because if the hole gets bigger, then it is beyond repair. Must get 4 sets of new tires then.

if there is no nail, might be air leaking from the valve. if that's the case change tyre also no use.

u can DIY check, open up the valve cap, place a bit of soap water and observe any bubble

I hope this post does not reach you too late and that you are still around to read it.

From all the above that you posted I think it maybe a very good idea to change your tyres.

If it was me I would not drive another mile in this situation but you might think differently and may

want to tahan until 40k from the way you see things.

Just that if you see any cars with MCF sticker please just don't follow to closely behind.

By the way you sound very familiar, were you a former DSP not too long ago?

All the best. [thumbsup]

Tyres and brakes.

Not worth messing around to save even S$ 50. And I'm a tight git.

Change them now.

The TS has to spend $50? $50? But its only on 38k+ and he has more than 1k before it reaches 40k and he has 1 more month to go. Thats like more than 4 more weeks!

However you may have a very good point as the coin test a few months back, where a 50cent (or was it 20cents?) coin is used to determine the depth. It was already in the red zone where it indicates the need to change the tyre.

But as it was still quite some time from 2 years and 40K, hence I ignored it. If the TS has been driving for a long time with bold tyres and nothing has happened why bother to rush to change his tyres now when he still has 1 month to go?

:D

Hi, I have changed my tyres just to set my mind at ease. Rather than do a patching and still change my tyres next month, I thought why don't I just change all of them now.

ANyway, I've changed to Hankook K415.

Hope they serve me well!

And thanks to all the bros for your invaluable advices! [wave]

Neutral Newbie

You can continue to drive up to the nearest repair station. I guess... It is not safe to drive with tires like those. Always stay on the safe side. :)
